Chapter 5

As i made it to my next class I remembered that i had detention with Si-Si and Sally after school. I pulled out my phone from my pocket and texted them both reminding them of our detention.

Me: guys don't forget we have detention so no riding the bus today.
Sally: great, at least i don't get to do the dishes
Sierra: my mom is so gonna kill me, I don't even have a ride home
Me: sally you are crazy, you refer detention to dishes, damn girl!
Sierra: uhmm hello, incase u didn't notice Taeya, I'm right here.
Me: lmao, Si-Si i was still typing, how can i forget you
Sally: attention seeker. Referring to Sierra
Me: u guys i have something interesting to tell y'all, about this jayson guy and Ayanna.
Sierra: it had better be interesting if it's about those two idiots
Sally: you feel me sierra
Me: anyway see y'all after school, my teacher just walked in

I kept my phone back as i continued to reflect on Jayson's story. *not like i actually cared anyway* i just loved solving puzzles. I think i want to be a criminal investigator. But na, I don't like government and besides my parents wouldn't even let me. Anyway till then.
         The bell for dismissal rang and i met sally and Si-Si in front of the detention door. We walked in and saw that we were the only kids there. It was mixed feelings for me, because it meant at least no more trouble with the other kids but also Ayanna was supposed to be here.
               We went to the teacher to assign us to duties, we were asked to just sit in a corner without making a sound for 20 minutes. Like wtf tho! We weren't some kindergarten kids who got time outs. This was more or less a timeout. We looked at the teacher in a confusing way and then the door swinged open so hard that i jerked a little.  It was Jayson coming in with Ayanna and her friends and Rayshawn.

      Ok was this some volunteer work because there was no way all these people had detention at the same time. That's insane.
        They walked in so noisily, Jayson raised his eyebrows in a surprising way when he saw me. And Ayanna just laughed when she saw me.
      Omg this detention better be good, I'm sure Jayson had detention everyday.
       Sally and Sierra seemed more interested as soon as they saw Ayanna and her friends walk in. 
       Our detention teacher asked us to all sit together in a row without talking for 20 minutes. Like at first it was okay because it was just me Sally and Si-Si, but now, we had to sit with bunch of nonentities *Jesus please fix this*

       We sat down together, i was in the middle of Sally and Sierra while Ayanna and her friends sat together and Rayshawn and Jayson. Rayshawn hardly ever smiled tho. That was quite weird.
We were already sitted when the detention lady yelled.
"So y'all think you can come in here and do whatever you want, sit wherever you want?" We were so confused, i mean she asked us to sit and not talk. So what was the problem?

We all stared at her so lost. She stood up immediately and walked towards us.
"You with the ghetto ass hair cut come sit up here" , she said referring to Jayson and gesturing to the table that was up front. We giggled when we heard her say ghetto ass hair cut, it was funny to see Jayson ridiculed.
He didn't stand up, the lady looked at him and said "i guess I wasn't talking to myself"
Jayson looked at her, he wasn't angry, he had a tiny smile at the corner of his lips. And he just kept on chewing his gum noisily with that evil smile at the corner of his lips and Rayshawn laughed out so loud. I swear his laughter literally made me laugh. Rayshawn barely smiled and now he was laughing. *bruhh*
"Excuse me Ms. Uhmmmm...., i said attempting to call the lady's attention because I didn't know her name. "Ms. Newbury and how can i help you"

"I think the ghetto ass hair cut guy wants you to say his name because he is probably dumb or his breath stank so he don't wanna talk"
I said trying to help the woman out because i knew Jayson was ready to ignore her till the end.
Sally and Sierra looked at me like i was mad or something, like why would i interfere and Ayanna looked at me.
Who's breath did you say stank or who is dumb, i dare you to say that again right into my face, ayanna said.

"Bitch was you deaf or something?, she just said it". Sierra said to Ayanna.
Ms. Newbury looked at us three and said 10 more minutes added to your time for talking. I rolled my eyes in frustration and attempted to defend myself when i caught Jayson glaring at me. Like he had actually been glaring at me the whole time. Probably cos i called him dumb and stanking breath.
He moved to the sit the lady referred to without saying anything. "I guess he probably knew he had a ghetto ass hair cut" sally whispered to us.
You, the lady said pointing to me, cone sit right next to him she said gesturing to Jayson. I opened my eyes and pleaded in whispers. Ayanna and her friends were laughing in a mocking way, it looked like i had just been sent to a lions cage. My friends tried to speak up for me but that only meant more detention time. I slowly and shakily moved to sit besides Jayson, as i passed Ayanna and her friends they whispered "you better not go start flirting with him" I squeezed my nose in disgust, like I can't even imagine that. Rayshawn scoffed loudly in a mocking way in reply to their comment. Wait is he trying to say I'm not attractive or what?

As i sat beside Jayson, i heard him say "this detention is going to be so much fun, don't you think?" I totally ignored him.
She made sally and Sheyneneh sit beside Rayshawn, and Ayanna and sierra and the other girls sat together.
