The moment we walked in I was hit again by squeals of girls. Some were even jumping up and down, tightly clasping their friends hands as they did so, unable to contain their excitement.
There were about 30 girls, all lined up around the room. It took about an hour to sign and takes photos with them. Each girl had just pretty much experienced the best two minutes of their lives, from what I could tell. The room was buzzing with excitement, and I enjoyed watching the boys grin and laugh with the girls, making them all feel special for the two minutes they had with them.
They had a crazy life, for sure, but things like this made me realize how rewarding it was to them. I watched as Louis repeaititvely answered questions about Kevin, his pidgeon friend. His smile never faltered, and he acted like it was the first time he'd heard such a thing all night.
I hung back, video taping and just watching. Nothing bad happened, because their was nothing to be suspious of. As far as these girls were concerned, the boys paid no attention to me - other than the secretive smiles Louis would flash me when no one was looking.
Eventually the whole thing came to an end and the last fan and her mom filed out of the room. I could see that they were all exhausted, and the moment it was over they all slumped back in their chairs, their cheerful expressions turning into whines of being hungry and tired.
"Can we hit a McDonald's drive thru on the way back?" Niall asked as we all headed to the limo waiting for them. Phil, Chase and Alexis had gone long after the concert, so I had no choice but to ride with them.
"A limo won't fit through the drive thru, mate," Zayn reminded Niall with a smirk.
"I can run in," I offered. "You guys can just stay in here."
Niall's face lit up. "I knew there was a reason I liked you," he cheered happily.
"Gee, thanks," I teased.
Niall rolled his eyes playfully. "You know what I mean," he muttered just as we reached the limo. We all piled in and Niall pressed the button to roll down the driver's barrier. "Could you swing by the nearest McDonald's?"
"Sure thing, kid," he replied with a backwards thumbs up. The car started and we began to move. The ride was mostly quiet, spent scrolling through phones or just relaxing in the one moment of piece they'd been given all day. Louis' head rested on my shoulder, something I had grown used too.
Eventually we pulled to a stop. Louis jerked upright and looked around, rubbing his eyes. "Are we home?" He muttered groggily.
"We're at McDonalds," I told him with a chuckle, nodding to the neon M that proudly stated open 24/7, glowing in the view from our window.
He frowned.
"What do you guys want?"
The four boys rattled off their orders. I turned to Louis with raised eyebrows. "And for you?"
"I'll come in, you can't carry all that food yourself," Louis insisted.
"But Paul's not here, Lou. That's not a very safe idea..." Liam objected.
Louis rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Yeah, it's not safe so we send the pretty one hundred pound girl out in the dark to defend herself? Makes sense," he mocked.
Liam opened his mouth to say something but huffed. "Fine. Don't listen to me, whatever."
Louis smirked. "Wasn't planning on it," he said as he opened the door and ducked out, then held his hand out to help me.
