"Seriously?" I sighed, exasperated after a half hour of sitting in the silent, tension filled air of the car. "How long can you ignore me for, Louis?"
He sat up a little straighter, his fingers drumming on the steering wheel irritably as he licked his lips. I could tell not talking was a struggle for him - Louis had difficulty shutting up for a whole minute, let alone staying silent for a half hour.
"I don't know how many times I have to say I'm sorry!"
Louis hand reached out for the stereo. We had lost radio signal a while ago - due to the storm, I supposed. He turned on the music, his glossy eyes remaining forward the entire time. Apparently he couldn't even look at me. The beginning notes of a song we both recognized instantly began and I remembered that I had let Lily listen to her One Direction CD on the way to the mall. Louis' hand darted out to silence 'Change My Mind' and I had never been so glad to not have to listen to a song. It was completely associated now with my night with Louis - and I didn't think I could handle that amount of awkwardness.
A small smirk crawled across his face, but he still refused to look at me and it disappeared almost immediately, but I caught it. And it at least gave me some glimmer of hope.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket, idly scrolling through my facebook to distract myself with random updates of what people were having for supper. No matter how hard I tried to forget about the boy sitting mere inches away from me, his arm so close to mine that I could almost feel the heat radiating off him, smell the strawberry shampoo he had to borrow off me because he didn't think to bring any. I got lost in thoughts of him, remembering the feeling of his rough lips on mine, his hands roaming my body.
"Fuck," Louis growled suddenly, stripping me from my thoughts. The car was slowing to a stop and as I craned my neck to get a better look at what was going on. There was whirling red and blue lights, as well as two cop cars and a road block. "Jesus, what's going on?" We inched forward and Louis rolled down the window. A cop approached slowly, shining his flash light at the window.
"Hi, there," the cop smiled, leaning down to get a look at both of us. His eyes lingered on me for a second and he flashed me an even bigger smile, appreciating my chest it seemed. I pulled my cardigan tighter around myself.
"Hello, sir," Louis drawled in his accent, the contrast to the other man's was huge. "What seems to be the problem?"
"Road is shut down due to the weather, son," another cop explained from behind him. "Can't let anyone pass tonight. You don't want to be on the highway with this kind of rain."
"We have to get back - I have a concert tomorrow night. And interviews in the morning."
"You heard the man, the road is closed," said the cop who was still smiling at me, his arm leaning on th top of the car. I shifted awkwardly, trying not to meet my gaze. Louis followed his view point to me and then frowned.
"I'd appreciate if you stopped looking at her like that," Louis snapped and it seemed to catch him off guard. He cleared his throat then straightened up. "I really have to get back - my name is Louis Tomlinson. I'm in the band One Direction. Isn't there anyway you can let us pass? I'll drive carefully, we just really need to get back."
"One Direction, you say?" The older cop who had been hanging back asked. "My niece loves you guys - do you think I could get an autograph for her? She's going to your concert."
"Do you think you could let us pass?" Louis countered.
"Not a chance, son. It's not safe. You should know better than trying to bribe an officer."
