"Alexis, you have to talk to him," I sighed as I leaned back against the wall and crossed my arms over my chest. I watched her frantically scurry around the room, shoving items into her suit case as her hands flutter around every surface. "Chill," I told her with a chuckle.
"I don't want to talk to him, I just... I have to go," she grumbled as she bent over and did a quick check under the bed.
"Well, he's standing outside the door, so I don't know where you plan on going. You're not going to get by him, I promise he's not taking no for an answer. He's freaking out, Lex. You owe the kid." I straightened up and walked over to sit on the bed near her. "You'll feel better once you get this over with."
Alexis dropped the hair brush that she had pulled out from under the bed - it always amazed me how messy she could get a room in two days. "Okay, fine. Just give me a second." She pushed herself up and in the direction of the bathroom. I sat patiently while I heard the clattering of makeup brushes and the tap running. She came out moments later looking the exact same, just a little less panic stricken. Maybe a bit more nauseous. "Alright, alright. Go get him already. Jesus..." She pressed her palm against her forehead and I quickly did as she said before she changed her mind. Was she far along enough to have those crazy mood swings yet? Seemed like it.
Niall was pacing back and forth, chewing viciously on his nails. His head popped up and he stopped short when he realized I had opened the door. His mouth opened then quickly clamped shut then opened again, though he never said anything. Just starred at me like a deer caught in head lights.
"Come on in," I said with a fake cheeriness. He didn't even seem to pick up on it, just starred down at the floor with knitted brows. "You wanted to talk to her, remember Niall?" He looked up with a mirroring look of Alexis' panic. So I tried the same thing on him. "You'll feel a lot better when you get this over with."
Niall nodded and walked into the room as I opened the door wider for him. He hung back by the wall with his head still down. Alexis sat on the opposite side of the room, zipping and unzipping her suitcase absentmindedly.
"Alright...so the whole point of this is for you guys to discuss this. Can't do that if you're both too shy to talk."
They both looked at me blankly, with a little bit of desperation. I let out a long gust of air.
"Fine then. I'll start. You guys slept together." They both tensed and looked away again. "And now Alexis is pregnant."
"Niall..." Alexis finally muttered and I could hear the tears in her voice even though her face was shielded. "I'm sorry."
"You're sorry? I'm the one who should be apologizing... I should have...I don't know." Niall finally peeled his eyes from his shoes and looked at her.
There was a loud knock on the door. They both turned their attention - I refused to have them get sidetracked. "I'll grab that. You two keep talking. This is good." I hurried to the door and opened it slightly. My eyes bulged when I saw who it was and I quickly slipped out, shutting it and keeping a barrier between Alexis and Niall.
"Chase... Hey. What's up?" I asked as I scratched the back of my head and tried to act like nothing was going on.
"I came by to talk to Alexis..." He muttered. As I inspected him closely I could see how worn out he looked and the saddness that gathered in his eyes. He looked like a man who had his heart broken. "What are you doing here? I thought you had your own room?"
"I, uh, do. Was just checking to see if one of my bras got mixed up with her stuff." Why was I talking about my bra? "She's not in there. I was thinking of getting food. Want to join me?"
