It wasn't very surprising that I found myself surrounded by darkness, once again everything was silent, everything was motionless, and everything was simply nothing. I floated aimlessly through the blackness in my head. Still no dream.

This continued until my nothingness began to shake. I couldn't see it but for some odd reason I just knew that I was shaking.

The shaking got more vigorous as I noticed the presence of a voice and it wasn't mine. It felt so close and at the same time as far as space would allow. I could hear my name being called, "Zayla, Zayla", each letter echo all around me. "Wake up Zayla you have to wake up, NOW."

Suddenly bits and pieces of my darkness chipped away revealing a bright light. I quickly realized that the one that was shaking me was none other than Theia.

Adrenaline pumped through my blood as I jerked my head up with a gasp.

Before I could adjust my eyes, Theia was already up and held on tight to my wrist. I blinked a few times and found myself half way down the spiraling stairs, half running half being dragged by Theia who was in a serious panic.

"We overslept, its already six o clock, we have to get out of here before the sun comes up."

I was wide awake now and running at the same pace as Theia; our steps were in sync.

We reach the door and bursted out of the tower like it was on fire.

Luckily, only a handful of people were out but they were too busy with their own morning affairs to even acknowledge us. Still, we slowed our pace to avoid drawing attention.

Theia scrambled for the short circuiter clip, at the same time I realized that we were still wearing our coats with the hoods up, after all we did go to sleep in them.

No one had detected us, yet, I made a quick glance over my shoulder just to make sure we were still in the clear. In the process of doing so Theia, who was also distracted, and I crashed into a large man causing us to fall back.

He wore a shirt that was much too small for him and carried a rigid expression that didn't even shift as we collided. He remained stone as we picked ourselves up and stumbled by only taking a second to make an almost inaudible apology.

We must have seemed like a rude couple of miscreants because I don't know if was just me being paranoid but I could feel the man's stare attempting to bore a hole in the back of my head. You already know I'm all about meeting new people but right now I didn't have time to be worrying my first impression on some anonymous guy so I decided to ignore it.

The only thing I could focus on was keeping my eyes straight ahead and getting out of here.

Slowly coming into my range of vision was the gap between the two buildings from which we arrived. A few steady steps later, we made a sharp turn and began to run as fast as we could. Our feet thumped hard against the ground forcing dust up into the air. This time we didn't slow down nor did we look back. The construction site was now in sight which meant the fence was just past it.

My nerves began to calm and I suddenly felt invigorated. My feet began to hit the ground with more force than ever. Theia sped up as well and easily matched my speed.

We reached the site with a shuddering halt, forcing our heels into the dirt. After taking a moment to catch my breath, I looked, the sun still not out, we made it in time. At the thought of this, I couldn't help but silently rejoice.

After my happy-fest came to a simmer, I faced Theia who was more than ready to leave. We exchanged nods, initiating our unspoken plan. Theia would go first, short circuit the fence, then crawl through. Once on the other side she would signal me and I would cross over.

Now it was time to put the plan into action,

"Ready?" Said Theia, getting into running position.

"Ready."

And she was off, sprinting towards the fence, taking big steps. At a little more than half way there Theia looked over her shoulder at me for half a second, then back. Her pace slowed and she looked back at me again. This time her face did not carry the same animated expression, she looked horrified. Her jaw dropped slightly open and her eyes that were fixed on me were filled with trepidation. I couldn't figure out what she was so scared about, we were home free...weren't we?

I cupped my hand into curves around the sides of my mouth tried to mouth 'what's wrong' but I got no response, Theia was frozen in time and space.

I began to feel on edge, my nerves were tingling. Like many times before when watching out for Vallus, my eyes began to sweep the area in frantic motions.

Suddenly Theia let out a blood-curdling scream and a sharped pain came crashing down in the back of my head. It felt like someone had just set of a bomb in my skull. What was happening to me? My mind was starting to get fuzzy. My hand began to move on its own as my fingers slowly inched through my thick mass of curly locks. The first thing that struck me was that my hair was wet. I felt for my scalp, it was split open and bleeding, badly. The contact of my fingers with my bloody scalp sent a second searing pain all the way around my head. I pulled back my hands as if I had just touched hot coal; I looked down at them only to see that they were covered with blood. I wanted to throw up; it wasn't that there was simply blood on my hands that disturbed me. After all, growing up I had to hunt and gut animals if I wanted to eat so I was used to seeing it. What shook me was that it was Human blood, it was my blood. Everything seemed like it was going in slow motion. My mind finally processed what was going on.
