I wasn't sure if it was just the shape or the size of the shop, but for whatever reason I could hear the two of them talking like they were right next to me.

Maice took the three disposable plates and stacked them on top of each other.
"Thanks," He said about to walk away.

"Hold on what's the rush I gotta tell you somethin'."

Maice was still facing me at the moment so I could see when he made an obvious point out of rolling his eyes and turning around dramatically. He set the food and his elbow down on the counter then me put his chin in his hand.

"So what's the ground breaking news you had to tell me?" He asked sarcastically. The old man chuckled then put his hand on Maice's shoulder.

"Okay, okay I'll make it quick. I just wanted to say that it's about time you found yourself girlfriend, I only met the girl but I can tell you that she's a keeper."

I felt like my heart had been replaced by a wrecking ball as it crashed against my rib cage. I frantically tried to find my heart to stop the booming in my chest. I recovered my heart and the wrecking ball ceased to exist. Suddenly I had a feeling Maice would look over his shoulder at me so just when he snuck a peek behind his back, I skillfully averted my gaze to a window in the corner. I simpered to myself for a second before tuning back in to their conversation. Maice got a bit quieter but I could still hear.

"Wait, I don't think you understand, I—,"

"Ah ah ah no need to explain. I already know how young love works, believe it or not I was quite the ladies' man when I was your age."

"No, you're not listening—," Maice tried

"Because I don't have to. Anyone who's not blind can see the connection between you two."

"Mr.Bersen if you could just hear me out,"

"Come on, no need to be embarrassed. Love is an amazing thing, it's kind of like metamorphosis, the process may not always be pretty, it may even be a down right horror flick but in time the end result is a beautiful thing." He made a rainbow with his hand to exaggerate his point.

"Okay, now you're just talking crazy and if you would just listen to me you would know that Zayla and I aren't like that." Maice's voice hushed as he reared the end of his sentence.

"Oh, I figured that out from the second you said 'wait'," He laughed

"You knew, and yet you let me go through this whole struggle," Maice accused

"And in that so called struggle, you kept working so hard to tell me that you were just friends. You could have walked away because it wouldn't matter what I said if you truly felt like friends but you didn't, which tells me that you might feel otherwise and you're trying so hard to hide it."

Maice was speechless for a moment and I wondered if Mr.Bersen broke him. At the same time though I was at a loss of word and could feel myself vibrating in anticipation. For I second I almost forgot they were talking about me and the anticipation turned into a thump that rocked me from the core out. Mr.Bersen surprised me when he continued in an almost inaudible voice.

"The only question now is, how do you feel about her?"

Maice leaned in close and I would have leaned too if I could without blowing my cover. I heard the hush wind of his voice but I couldn't decipher what he was saying. He pulled back and Mr.Bersen boomed in laughter. I didn't know what I was hoping for but I felt a bit disappointed that I didn't get to find out what his answer was.
