Bre turned off her engine and stepped out of the car in one swift movement. She leaned up against her car as Tremaine took the parking space right next to her. Her adrenaline was still running. Racing brought her back to the younger days in Columbia when her father use to be up her ass about street racing with her friends; but she was no longer 16 year old Aubrey.
Tremaine stepped out of his car and she unfolded her arms, sticking her hands in her front pockets.
"Not bad for an old doctor." She stated with a small smile as they headed out of the parking garage.
"Old doctor? Haha. Girl, I'm probably younger than you."
"How old are you anyway?" He asked curiously.
"I'll be twenty-three next week." She stated with a small frown.
"You don't look too happy about it."
She shrugged lightly and looked over at him for a brief moment. Her orbs staring into his for only a second.
"Me and time don't get along. I always seem to be chasing it."
She saw in his eyes that he was searching for the double meaning in that, but he never said anything. He just gave her a reassuring smile and nodded with understanding.
"So where you leading me to woman?" He asked her.
"Enjoy the mystery." Her answer made him smile.
They approached a tucked off lounge and restaurant called Lola's on Parkway Ave.
They walked in and she watched as Trey immediately took in his surroundings. The graffiti theme was the highlight of the place. Every wall was covered in unique graffiti by different local artists, and the dim lighting and black marble floors added to the urban look.
"I've never even heard of this place" Tremaine stated in amazement.
"It's my favorite spot. Mood is really chill, and the food is to die for." Aubrey responded.
They took a seat and waited to be serviced.
Bre had to admit, she was nervous. For some odd reason sitting across from him got her nerves going. With the lights dim, she took the opportunity to examine him. His hair was cut neatly into a fade with small waves resting on his head. His milk chocolate skin was so smooth and seemed not to have a blemish. She moved to his lips. They were the perfect hue of pink and even when he talked they looked as soft as pillows. His mouth was moving, but she couldn't hear the words. Her mouth hung slightly agape as she watched him.
"Baby girl?" He called for her. She finally snapped out of her gaze and her eyes widened in alert.
"Huh?" She responded. She had been so busy staring, she didn't notice he was talking to her.
"I asked how often do you come here?" He chucked. She flushed in embarrassment for the first time in front of him.
"Once a week."
"Nice." He began to look over the menu.
Quietness took over. It wasn't an awkward silence. Just one where they were both lost in their thoughts; him about her & she, him.
The waitress interrupted the intensity of the moment.
"How you doing Ms. Watts? Sir?"
"Good..." He replied lowly, not realizing his breath was caught in his throat, so he cleared it.
"Good and you?" He tried at it again.
"I'm doing good Gina. You know what I want." Aubrey responded with a smile, handing over her menu.
She just a watched as Tremaine scanned the menu once again before opening his mouth to order.
How hadn't she ran into him before? Such an... interesting guy. Something about him sparked her senses. She wanted to know him. There had to be a flaw. Perfect smile, perfect laugh, perfect skin, intelligent, hard working. Then it hit her, he's getting married. That was the flaw.
"You gotta stop staring at me. You're making it hard to keep this as just a friendly dinner." Tremaine said.
She blushed again. That's the second time he had caught her staring.
"Don't flatter yourself doctor." She stated holding her ground, unintentionally being flirtatious.
"Is that blushing? Ladies and gentlemen, she actually does have a soft side!" Sarcasm dripped from every word. They shared a chuckle.
She could still feel the effects from the joint she had previously smoked. So could he...
.
They practically had their own aura over the table as they ate, even the blind could see it. It could be felt across the room. They laughed and talked, joked and flirted like they were two kids with a crush.
But Aubrey knew it was just dinner. That's all it could ever be.
"Seriously, I damn near pissed myself yo. Fuck that. I'll never ride the Dragster again." They were walking back to the parking structure talking about roller coasters.
"Pussy." Trey replied laughing. Aubrey playfully pushed him and joined in.
"Chill on me. You ain't bout it neither." She taunted him.
"Damn right." He replied.
Their laugh was cut short by the ringing of his phone. It was Ryan.
Tremaine looked up at Aubrey and she gave him a small smile and nodded for him to pickup.
"Yo." He answered.
"Yo? Where are you boo? You worked overtime today?" She asked him.
"Nah. I went out to dinner with a friend. I'll be home in about half an hour."
They stopped at Aubrey's car, so she sat on her hood and pulled out her phone.
"Oh okay. I wanted to go look at some flowers today for the wedding. You've been gone all day."
"Baby that's girly shit, you can handle that. That ain't my thing."
"But Trey, it's our wedding! You gotta have a say so in it."
"I'll talk to you when I get home Ry. Aight?" Trey said, watching Aubrey on her phone. He took the phone out of her hand and she looked at him like he had three heads. He couldn't even hold his laugh.
"You think this is a joke? Whatever Trey. I'll see you later." She hung up. He let out a sigh and slid his phone in his pocket. He typed his number in Aubrey's phone and called his.
"Chu doin'?" She asked him with curiosity. Once he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket, he hung up and handed her phone back, then walked to his driver side door.
"Just stole your number. Now I can bother you anytime I want."
"Well who said I wanted you to have it?" She asked hopping off the hood of her car.
He opened up his door and started his car, rolling down the windows before putting on his seat belt.
"You didn't stop me. See you later Bre." He pulled off, leaving her there speechless this time.
