I sped up behind her, putting my hand lightly on her shoulder. She jumped and swung around but when she saw that it was only me, she did the most peculiar thing.

Angelina Emerson pressed the back of her body against mine. She trusted me to protect her. The warmth of her skin felt tempting against my neutral body. My hand dropped to her waist and her stomach reacted sensitively to my touch.

Anya and Stella stood on either side of Daxton. I knew Anya was with me but Stella’s capricious nature always left me in the dark. She could easily side with Daxton.

“Rogue, good to see you my brother” Daxton said eyeing the girl. “What have we here?”

“It’s good to see you too.” I answered ignoring his question.

“What are you doing here?” Daxton asked, his eyes never leaving Angelina.

“You know what, Dax?” My reply was gentle.

     “She looks good.” He responded.

“I would like to embrace my brother and sisters whom I have not seen in years.” I told him.

“Then what are you waiting for, get over here.” Dax implored with outstretched arms.

He was only one hundred and twenty years old and not near as strong as I am but the thought of ever having to fight my brother filled me with dread. I felt that I could trust him.

Before I could remove my hand from her waist, Angelina rested her hand on top of mine, staying my movements. Her heart beat rapidly from fear.

“It’s okay.”  I whispered to her. I knew my siblings heard me. She dropped her hand and so did I.

Dax’s hand remained outstretched and I walked into them. Anya and Stella surrounded me for their greeting which I lovingly gave.

“Rogue, you are as handsome as ever.” Stella remarked.

“Aren’t you going to introduce us?” Anya said.

“Of course,” I turned to Angelina who looked a little more relaxed. “Angelina, these are my kin, Daxton my brother and my sisters Anya and Stella.”

“Hello” Angie said and my sisters responded the same.     Daxton moved towards her and I froze. He inhaled deeply when he reached a few feet away from her.

     “Now I understand, she’s injured.”

     I moved to Angelina’s side.

“It’s okay Rogue, she covered her wound with some type of ointment. It smells awful and I can’t smell any fresh blood.” Dax told me.

I had also noticed this but was too preoccupied with the human to inquire.

“When are you coming home? I have so much to tell you.” He gave me a familiar look that meant his stories were going to make me envious.

I smiled. It was typical Dax. “I’ll be home soon.” I told him. He nodded.

“Come on girls, let’s go home.”

Anya nodded towards me and Stella winked before disappearing into the forest.

Angelina exhaled. “Is that it? Is the danger over?”

     “I don’t know, for sure.” I confessed.

“So, I guess you still have to protect me?”
