Her face, stricken with fear of me, ravaged my insides. After I changed back, I sat shocked speechless at what I’d done. Stella left to clean up but not before warning me stay put. A few minutes later, she returned to check on me.

“Rogue, what happened?” She asked sitting down beside me on the bed.

I could not speak. The abomination of what just occurred filled me with rage so severe I wanted to rip myself apart. I am anathema to Angelina’s very existence. I felt myself imploding and had to get as far away from her as possible.

“Angelina will forgive you; all you have to do is apologize.”

“Tell her I’m sorry.” I said and left the cabin to catch my flight.

I changed clothe the moment I got on the plane before shutting myself down on the flight home. I did not want to think about her. When I awoke, it was much easier to force her out of my thoughts and steel myself against the weakness she induced in me. Once again, I reminded myself that she was a distraction I could not allow, especially not now.

Norah and Lex greeted me when I entered the house. They knew. Stella must have called and told them what happened.

“I don’t want to talk about.” I stated.

“Okay, Stella wants us to inform you that Angelina understands.”

“Really, what exactly does she understand? How alive would she be right now if Stella were not there? She was afraid of me and growing more so by the second, it was too easy?” I stalked away.

“Rogue,” Lex called stopping me in my tracks. “Corinth and his clan will be here in the dusk.”

     “How do you know this?”

“One of his clan’s kinsmen called not long ago to inform us, so we can be ready to receive him.” Lex.

“Good, now that we know, we can all be better prepared.” I walked away again, this time unstopped.

I was on high alert. Corinth enjoyed having the advantage. He could show up at anytime, if not he was sure to send one of his helots out to spy on us. The looks I received from Daxton, Anya, Margas and Giliana told me that they too knew.

With my cold and focused disposition, I made it clear the subject was not open for discussion. It seemed to be working; no one in my family inquired about her.

Anya and Gilliana lounge under oversized umbrellas at opposite ends of the pool but in actual they were listening out for any intruders from that part of the forest. Margas sat at on the east of the house working on his laptop and Dax went out to where the animals were caged. Norah had the west where the kitchen was situated; she prepared meals for the human donors that will accompany Corinth.

Lex was at the heart of us and I stayed in the attic. The tinted glass allowed me to look out freely but prevented anyone from seeing me. The view from there was of the entire front entrance to the house. I could see the roads and houses beyond.

With each concentrating all of their focus on a certain area rather than all of the surrounding area, this increased our hearing range and senses. The night dragged on. Just a mere two hours away from sunset, I felt them coming before I saw the cars driving in a line some distance away. The force of their presence created a sensation in me similar to a flash warning.

I hurried to inform the others but they too were aware of the forceful presence heading our way. We convened in the living room awaiting their arrival. Fifteen minutes later, three loud bangs sounded on the door. Margas and I went out to get it.
