I could smell Angie. She was quiet. She was close. I could walk to her because she was also still, but that was not why I walked. I knew. I listened. When it came, I stopped near a tree and held on to it for support.

She screamed my name at the very end, her last words, ‘Rogue, please’, wretched from her tortured soul. It was over. I would truly never behold her ever again. Sophia is dead. Her neck, snapped.

It occurred to me then, that I was unable to kill her, as much as I wanted her dead, and now that she was dead, a huge part of my live went with her. I should be happy, relieved, instead all I felt was an aching sorrow. If only she was not created. I did not do enough to prevent it and in the end, I did nothing.

With heaviness, I made my way to the light in all this darkness. Her back rested upon the trunk of a fir almost as old as I am. She shivered partly from the night chill and from the events of the last few hours.

     “Angie,”

She looked up with a start more than a jump. I knew she contemplated running. I waited for her to make a move. It never came and she settled down. I walked slowly towards her. This simple act made me feel more human than ever. She stood up slowly.

“What is done is done. It is over. You are safe to leave. You are free.”

     She stayed.

Time disappeared as we stood staring at each other. I knew what I was looking at; my love, happiness, my life, however humanly brief. What did she see?

     “What happened?”

     “Sophia is dead.”

She took a moment to dissolve this. “Did you kill her?”

     “No, her fiancé, Elliot….”

I did not expect her to take a step towards me, however hesitant at first.

“I’m sorry.” She said before wrapping her arms around my neck and crying.

Relief flooded me. Angelina understood. I held her gently at first but she felt so right, fit so perfectly, I crushed her too me as much as I could without hurting her.

“Your tears will do for us both.” I told her unable to shed any.

     “Rogue…”

     “Yes”

     “I meant what I said.”

“What did you say?” I was truly confused as I held her away from me and looked into her eyes. Was it something I was going to dread, something to add to this nightmare of a night?

“I want you to claim me.”

     That I never expected.

I took her face in my hand. “Are you sure this is what you want?

     “Yes”

I kissed her then with every passionate cell of my being and if my soul were not lost, I would throw that in too. My hand slowly slid up her body and she moaned a pleasant sound; an invitation to continue.

I pulled her shirt off and she unbuttoned mine. Her hand smoothed up my torso, causing me to inhale sharply. I reached for her bra, removing it swiftly before caressing her perfect globes. She shivered from excitement.

As we lay on Mother Nature’s floor and I removed the last of her garment and mine, I felt consumed by the beauty of this human girl. I truly love her. This was new to me, as I knew now that I have never loved before.
