Norah outdid herself. The smell of human food greeted me when I entered the house sometime late in the afternoon. I spent the day in my office working on drawings for a modern day Amphitheatre in Spain. I headed straight for the kitchen to see her studying a Vegan cookbook that looked brand new.
“Rogue, I’m glad to see you, I have been tying recipes all day. Do you think Angie will like this?” She held a spoon up to my mouth. This action reminded me of a time when she prepared meals for Sophia.
I tasted the dish and had no idea if I even liked it. My delayed response got me a frown.
“She won’t like it will she?”
“I don’t know but I don’t think it matters, as long as it’s vegan.”
“Fine, I have decided on Spinach Mushroom Tarts, a Strawberry and Mixed Greens Salad, Vegetable Fettuccine and for dessert, Raw Mixed Berries Cheesecake; all vegan ingredients. What do you think?”
“I think it will be great.” I told her with a winsome smile.
As I walked up the main staircase, Dax greeted me at the top. “How are things at the office?”
“Somewhat busy”
“I bought a building in New York. It needs gutting. Do you think you could look over the floor plans and maybe give me some ideas?”
“We can do it now.” I said.
Dax’s face lit up. “Meet me in the study.”
I headed back down the stairs when Stella and Anya strolled through the front door carrying shopping bags with designer logos. Stella gave me a sheepish look and Anya looked annoyed. This had me somewhat concerned; Anya rarely ever loses her calm exterior.
“What have you two been up too?” I asked, directing the question to Stella.
“Nothing, Anya took me shopping. She does not approve of my choices.” Stella confessed.
Anya walked away not wanting any part of the conversation. Somehow, I doubted that was it but I left it alone. There were more pressing things for me to be concerned about.
Dax and I spent hours in the study redesigning his building. Lex, Margas and Anya joined in after sometime throwing in a few suggestions of their own when Norah came in and reminded us to prepare for dinner.
I had to pick up Angie for seven; it was just after six. The emotion I felt was akin to excitement. It felt like tiny shocks of pleasure. I showered and then dressed in a flash, literally.
My eyes longed to feast upon her. I pulled up to her house at exactly seven. Graham opened the door and invited me in. Emma came down the stairs.
“Hello, Rogue,” She said smiling widely. “Angie will be down in a minute.” She turned to her husband. “Graham, get the basket.”
He disappeared into the kitchen and came back out with a giant basket loaded with gourmet food and liquor and handed it to me.
“This is for you and your family. I know it can’t compare but it’s the best thing in this little town.” He said.
“My mom loves this kind of stuff and the only thing dad wants is for mom to be happy. She will be happy with this.” I told another lie but it was worth it to see the way he relaxed.
“I’ll just put this in the car.” I told them and left. On my return, Angie was coming down the stairs. The emotions she stirred in me were unbelievable.
