Lex, Stella and I picked up Angelina, on schedule, at her house. She wore leggings and a sweater and her hair was still damp. I noticed dark circles under her eyes, which suggested she had not slept well.
While Lex conversed with her aunt and uncle, I tilted her face up to mine.
“Rough night?” I asked.
“I couldn’t sleep.” She gave me a weak smile.
“I’ll be right back.” I took her bags to the car.
“Where is the rest of your family?” Emma asked.
“They are on their way to the airport, we better get going ourselves.” Lex answered.
“Okay, Angie, if you need anything or just need to talk doesn’t matter what time of day or night, call. You’re doing great!” Emma told her quietly.
In the car, I held her as she rested her head on my chest. Lex dropped us off at the airport, and after a quick goodbye, we boarded the jet.
Not long into our flight she drifted off to sleep.
“Angie, we’re here.” I said gently.
“Oh no, I’m so sorry. I can’t believe I slept the entire way.” She looked beautiful even in sleep.
I grinned as she stopped mid stretch when she saw me watching.
A car waited for us after we made the necessary stops. It was a long drive to the cabin. Angelina gazed out the window taking in the sights.
We left the city behind and followed roads that took us into pristine wilderness. A private road shaded by tall trees led us to the cabin. The cabin was a mixture of stone and log, surrounded by lakes and trees with mountains capped in white peaks in the distance.
Angie inhaled sharply as we came in view of the cabin. “This is where we’ll be staying?” She looked at me for confirmation. I nodded.
I could barely take my eyes off her awed expression as she took in the open floor plan.
“This is really nice, I really feel like I’m on vacation.”
“You are on vacation.”
“Rogue, Angie must be hungry.” Stella said from somewhere behind me.
“Are you?”
“A little” She said.
“I know what that means.” I teased.
She smiled. “Okay, maybe I’m a lot hungry.”
“I’ll go get you something to eat. Stella will show you to your room.”
Her eyebrows furrowed but she said nothing. I already knew what she was thinking. I kissed her forehead quickly before leaving.
“Come with me.” I heard Stella say as I got into a car parked outside the garage.
About an hour later, I arrived at the house with a fruit salad, vegan wrap and a juice blend drink. I headed for the kitchen and found her munching on Quakers Apple Cinnamon Rice Cakes. I had the housekeeper fill the cupboards and fridge with all Vegan food for her. She took a shower and covered herself in a fluffy white robe.
“Where’s Stella?”
“I’m here,” She said behind me.
Angie eyed the bag of food. “I couldn’t wait I was too anxious to eat breakfast this morning.” She explained her appetite and then took her last bite of Quaker.
