She opened the back door, took one-step out and asked, “What do you want?” This surprised me.

It was the way she said it, so calm and without attitude. The way she looked at me, with knowledge. Did she know about us, about me? Her behavior took precedence over any blood crave.

“We should talk.” I replied casually, not letting on how confused I felt.

“Okay, but you know I’m alone right now and I am…” She looked for the right word. “Ill. You stay there and we can talk.”

She knew. I had no doubt that somehow she knew about us. How?

“Three members of my family are arriving sometime tomorrow. They are very young, for your safety, stay inside the house.”

She seemed to consider my words. “Tomorrow I have a doctors’ appointment. I wanted to look around town a bit. I need some things.” Her voice was soft, delicate even, yet she spoke plainly.

“I’ll take you. What time?” I said the words quickly trying not to over analyze. Some distant place in my head echoed: ‘What the hell are you doing?’

     “Ten-thirty”

We stared at each other for a moment. She was waiting for me to continue with my reason for coming to her house but I had nothing more to say. I turned around and walked away.

Whatever possessed me to offer myself to this girl had fled the moment I left her, but there was no turning back. She managed to curb my blood crave in the few minutes we spoke. Her blood was the last thing on my mind. How did she do it?

Although, she did not verbally agree to stay inside, I felt she understood. I just had to prepare myself.

For the rest of the day I tuned into the air around me waiting for it to come alive with her presence. It never did. Some small part of me hoped, but now I was glad that she did not push luck.

Sometime around midnight I went to check on her. Her family was home, of course. The two-story stone house looked lovely covered in darkness. Her window was open. Honing in only on the sounds coming from inside that window, I could hear her continuous even breathing as she slept soundly.

I went back to my home and, although we do not sleep, I needed rest. Just for a moment I needed to shut down all my senses and comatose myself. This would recharge and revive me for the trying day I was to spend with the girl tomorrow.

Even though I was early, so was she. There was no need to press the doorbell. I stepped out of my car and the front door opened. There she was dressed and ready to go. Her scent was a mixture of exotic medicated blood, floral and fruity perfumes that mingled with her own sweet natural scent, which reminded me faintly of pure rose oil.

Shockingly, again her nearness caused no blood crave; a pleasant feeing passed through me quickly at the sight of her.     She wore a short white cotton skirt and white tank under a navy colored blazer and brown flats. Her hair was in a smooth pony that fell past her shoulder.

She walked out the front door with confidence, as though we were friends going on an excursion. I could barely take my eyes off her, and when she stopped in front of me, I could only stare at the female.

I could find no flaws with her features. Her heart skipped a couple beats the entire time she looked back at me. I could feel her fear even though her composition did not show it.

Wordlessly, I opened the car door for her, and she slid in, adjusting her brown handbag on her lap. After pressing the door shut, I went around the back of the car over to the driver’s side and got in. I noticed how her hands lightly shook and she tightened her hold on her bag to hide the fact.
