“I think it’s time for dinner.” Norah happily announce breaking the awkward silence.
“We’ll be right there.” I said and my family left the room.
Angelina was standing when I pulled her to me. “How are you?”
“I’m great, Rogue, you’re family is not what I expected. They are like every human family I know, perfectly dysfunctional.” She answered honestly.
“Good, now I can do this.” I kissed her deep and passionate. She clung to me prettily and it took some will power not to take her to my room and forget about dinner.
We joined the table a few minutes later, curious eyes watched as I pulled her chair out before taking my seat besides her.
“Angie, I admit Vegan food is new to me but I hope you enjoy my efforts. Now, let us eat.”
After Norah’s short speech, she handed me dish after dish to serve Angie. We filled our glasses with wine and hers with nonalcoholic wine. Everyone ate every bite on his or her plate, including Angie who could not stop praising Norah.
“Mrs. Morgan, can I have these recipes?” She asked.
“Please call me Norah. I got the recipes from a book I picked up at the bookstore. I will give it to you.”
“No that’s not necessary, just tell me the name and I’ll go get a copy.”
“I insist you take mine. I can always pick up another.”
“If you’re sure that’s what you want to do.”
“I am positive.”
While Dax told one of his stories, I held Angie’s hand under the table. Her delicate fingers entwined with mines radiated warmth.
“We should have dessert outside.” Gilliana recommended.
“That’s a great idea.” Norah said and we all got up to go outside.
I remembered the basket Angie’s relatives had given me; it was still in the car. “I’ll be right back.” I told her, leaving her to sit in-between Gilly and Anya as I went to retrieve it.
Still, I could hear every word of their conversation.
“I’ve never seen him behave this way, not even with Sophia.” Gilly said.
“You are right, he is really into her. I hope if I ever fall for a human she has your qualities, Angie.” Anya said.
“I don’t think I could ever fall for a human.” Stella joined in the conversation. “I need a powerful vampire, like Rogue.”
I closed my eyes briefly, wishing Stella would stop. Norah was in the kitchen, humanly slicing the dessert and placing them in small plates. She looked confused by the basket.
“This is for you from Angie’s relatives.”
She understood immediately. “I will mention it.”
Music echoed through the outdoor speakers, this must be Dax’s doing, I thought. Fire blazed from the stone fire pit and everyone more or less sat around it.
Anya and Gilly still flanked either side of Angie as she spoke to Dax about her favorite band.
“I’ve never heard of them,” Dax admitted. “But, just give me a minute and I’ll pull them up.” He left to do just that.
