The Last Wolf Standing

Chapter Twenty-Two

"It's been far too long." He smiled but it looked more like a grimace. If he wasn't such a bad person he would actually be good-looking. He had short blond hair and dull green eyes. He was muscular and a few inches taller than me which he loved to make use of when trying to harm me.

I tilted my head to the side, I did not want to shift into human form because I would be far too defenseless. Zack growled menacingly which took Vance by surprise. He took that as his cue to continue talking. He never did know when to shut up.

"This big guy here is getting a bit excited. Am I right boys?" As soon as he stopped talking, the wolves flanking him stepped forward and growled, baring most of their teeth.

"Now, I know what my girl looks like and I will be leaving with her. I don't care how many of you I need to kill to acquire her." He added, I scoffed in response. His girl? He must be delusional. "I want Lily too. This wolf to my right wants his girlfriend back. He's also going to kill anyone he needs to."

Lily, Seth, Zack and I all tried to communicate to the rest of the pack, we told them to keep a safe distance but attack when necessary. We didn't want to tip Vance off that he was surrounded.

"Madison, come here." Vance commanded to which I shot my deadliest glare. He honestly thought that I was his lapdog. "Madison, I don't think that you want your friends and family to die because of your own foolish decisions. We had a good life together, let's go back to that.

A good life? I had to leave before this psychotic prick killed me. He thought that he could control me, sadly he's wrong, I thought. Attack.

The wolves that were on standby burst through the trees but these opponents were with Vance for a reason, they heard my allies coming and braced themselves for the attack. Vance looked bored, he didn't even bother to shift. He was far too conceited and I hated it. He ran at me, Zack intercepted and shoved him out of the way. I heard a crack, some part of Vance got broken. He shifted into wolf form to heal his human bones and loped to me yet again but in a larger, more powerful form.

He bared his teeth as he leaped into the air. He sank his teeth into my shorter, throwing me onto my side and causing me to howl in pain. He didn't let go, he dug his teeth as far into his skin as he could. I knew that he was going to take the chunk out of me. I clawed at him trying to get him away from me but nothing worked; he was enjoying my pain, the sadistic man loved that he could get such an excruciating response from me.

Zack sunk his teeth into Vance's leg and he yelped in pain which caused his to release his hold on me. Zack dragged him off of my injured body. He bit and scratched him but Vance was not one to give up without a fight. He head-butted Zack but it didn't push him far enough for Vance to get up. Vance continued to struggle beneath Zack's large frame.

I managed to get up by I was limping, I was useless in a fight. I looked around and saw that two wolves were down and the other two were outnumbered. They had no chance of winning. They fought as best they could but it wasn't enough, Lily and Seth held down Lily's former boyfriend while Cole broke his neck. That was one life I didn't care was gone. I wouldn't have killed him but I wasn't going to cry over him.

The other wolf was killed by Jaden with Daniel and Nick holding him down for his execution. My mind was too clouded to do anything but watch. Everyone that had come to our aid went and surrounded Vance, he had no way out. He had three choice: he could die by the hands of my friends, die by the hands of my other allies or surrender. He chose to give himself up. He shifted back into human form to show his truce.

I stayed in wolf form so that my body would heal faster. Cole bolted in the direction of Infinity with Nick following closely behind him. I assumed that he was going to change. We waited for them to return, no one said anything but Vance wouldn't take his eyes off of me and Zack wouldn't take his eyes off of Vance.

Minutes passed before Cole emerged, fully clothed, riding on Nick. He got down and handed Vance the spare clothes he brought with him. Vance had extensive injuries and his more serious wounds were covered in blood. The shallow ones were healing with only small amounts of dried blood littering them.

"Either you put these on or you get interrogated in the nude." Cole shouted when Vance refused to take the clothes.

"You always were pushy." He responded but his voice was raspy.

"You think this is pushy? Just wait, you're going to love what comes next." Cole laughed cynically.

Vance tried his best to get on his clothes without hurting himself too much. He grimaced and groaned. It served him right for wanting to kidnap me. He slouched on the floor, defeated.

"Why do you need to have Maddie?" Cole asked. I could tell he was very impatient, all he wanted to do was kill Vance.

"I love her and she needs to be with me. She had no right leaving in the first place." He spat in a disgusted tone.

"You are an idiot. You hurt her and you hurt all these innocent people for your selfish satisfaction. It's kind of sad that you won't ever get to see her again." My brother provoked him and I knew what he was talking about. Over the years Vance had accumulated a lot of enemies and Cole knew one of them. We had talked about this the other night.

"And why not?"

"Do you remember that run-in you had with The Yellow Wood Pack?" The look on Vance's face when Cole mentioned that pack made me feel utter joy. "Well, they would give anything to have you and so I will take you to them and negotiate for some things that would aid our pack. We can rid it of all the vermin that are just like you. Those who beat their family and spouses for fun."

"No, you can't do that." Vance begged.

"Yes I can, I am the rightful alpha of The Golden Creek Pack and I am taking back my position. I'm going to fix everything, starting with giving you up." Cole hissed, his threat laced with venom.

"I should have killed you when I had the chance." Vance said to me. His eyes were full of hatred and his voice conveyed the same emotion.

"Even more incentive to let Yellow Wood do what they want with you. I hope you made you peace with everyone at home. I have the feeling that you won't be seeing any of us ever again."

"I hope you die a slow and painful death Cole." Vance jeered.

"That's the death that you will face." Cole mocked before punching Vance in the face. The force of the lash knocked him out.

I felt satisfied, I still wanted him to feel more pain though. He had been an awful person to so many nice people and he deserved every single beating that he will no doubt receive. Cole through Vance's limp body onto Nick's back before turning to me.

"I'm going to Yellow Wood now, it isn't far so I will be back in less than three days. Heal quickly and be safe." He kissed my cheek before looking at Zack, "Take care of my little sister." Zack nodded in response and gave me a little nudge.

Cole shifted and ran next to Nick, they didn't care how much they jostled the unconscious body. They were on a mission. In the back of my mind I had felt bad for him, after all, I did like him at some point in time. Before I had seen his true colours.

I congratulated everyone on a good fight and thanked them all for saving me through telepathy. Lily and Seth followed the others and returned to Infinity while Zack, Jaden, Daniel and myself walked slowly back to my apartment. After such a long time, I finally felt like I could live my life again without having to fear anyone. I did need to take a couple of days to heal properly but other than that I had this sense of accomplishment and lightness to my spirit.
