Maya's POV

Why the boys get to sit in the front seats I don't know. I'm the one that might be pregnant, and I'm being squashed in the back of Farkle's van.

Holy s**t did something move inside me?

"Huckleberry?!" I groan.
"13 more hours Maya."
"I need to find a convenience store NOW."
"Why pancakes?"
"Call me that again, and I'll turn your face into a Texas rib."
"The next convenience store is half an hour away."

I sit up grumpily. My white tank top hangs loosely off my thin chest, and matches my ripped shorts. I dig through my bag, searching for a hair tie and a brush and quickly sweep my hair up into an extremely loose bun, strands of hair messily tumbling down.  I chuck the brush back into my rucksack, and suddenly my heart stops.

I forgot tampons.

And my period...was due the day after the night with Charlie.

"Farkle!"
"Haaaa!"
"Goat boy, I don't have any tampons."
"Wasn't your period due a while ago?"
"..."
"Maya?"
"..."

I pretend that it's one of those Oscar dramas where all the characters stare out of the window, and I watch as the cars zoom along the highway, and hills of grass roll across the landscape. The sky is as grey as grey can be, but it's usually like that.

The van is eerily quite. If Zay was here, he'd have gone in his accent, "Well, someone's got to talk."

"Why didn't Zay come?"
"He's meeting us in Texas."
"Why?"
"Zay's good with computers. He can track Riley's special passport, and find where she's been travelling."
"I need my guitar."
"Why?"

I smirked, and pretended to play. "Hey...I'm Buckety-Boing-Boing."

Farkle and Lucas weren't smiling. They both looked concerned.

"Maya?"
"Yeah Farkle?" Rhinos charged against the walls of my stomach, and I gulped.
"Where were you the night Riley disappeared?"
"Where were you?"
"At Lucas' apartment, watching Star Wars."
"I had X with Charlie."

Lucas slammed on the brakes, and we all went flying into the help lane.

"That was a shocker."
"Oh come on Huckleberry."
"That's what you were doing the night she disappeared?!"
"I didn't think that she'd choose that night to vanish. POOF!"
"You were with your boyfriend, while your best friend was with her demons."
"Don't make me feel more terrible than I already feel!"

I curled up into a ball, and quietly sobbed into the backseat, hoping that if there was baby inside, that it wouldn't hear me.
-----------------------------------
Farkle's POV
"Maya, we're at the convenience store now!" I shout, as Lucas drives in next to the gas.

His shoulders sag, and leans his head against the wheel, sighing.

"Where is she Farkle?"
"I don't know."
"You know everything!"
"Not when it comes to human emotion Lucas."
"Should we be mad at Maya?"

We both turn to stare at the silent ball in the backseat.

I've been wondering why Maya's been acting so strange lately.

"She has her own reasons and conscience. I'll go buy the food."
"I'm up."

Maya jumps out of the van sprightly, and dashes inside.

Is she pregnant? I wonder, as I snatch a bag of Dorritos.
-------------------------------
Maya's POV
I just need to check.

When Farkle isn't looking, I discreetly stuff a cheap pregnancy test up my sleeve, pay for it, and sprint to the toilet to vomit.

God Maya, what is wrong with you?

I follow the instructions, and wait, eyes closed, leaning against the wall.

-

I'm not pregnant.
---------------------------------
"We should totally have a squad."

I recline in the front seat, stuffing my face with the most beautiful pleasure in the world: CHOCOLATE.
Farkle has his eyes on the road, while Lucas is reading the newspaper in the backseat.

"A chocolate nation!"
"What's got you up in the good mood?"
"I don't know."

Total lie. I do know.

The sun is slowly starting to sleep, hiding behind its blanket of grass.
Come to think of it, Lucas has been dozing for a while...
----------------------------------------
Farkle's POV
I had to do it.

I didn't want any of us to be loaded with more trouble.

I only had to pee in them myself, and switch them while Maya wasn't looking. Thank god Dad sent me to spy camp, or I'd never have gotten through the heating vent.

I still have it.

Sitting in my bag, is Maya's REAL test.
