Charlie's POV
2nd July 2020

Maya sighs, as she lounges on the bed in our small hotel room.

I can't believe I am going to be a father.

"How are we going to do this Charlie?" she queries, burying her face in her hands.

I watch as the sun rises from its slumber, and slump on the bed next to Maya.

"Y-you don't have to stay with me," she stammers.

I grab her face and look straight into her eyes. "I'm not going to leave you. We'll figure something out okay?"

She relaxes on my chest, and I play with her golden locks, twirling them around and making messy braid.

"I've been accepted into the University Of California," she mumbles, rubbing her stomach gingerly.
"Are you positive about this? You'll be leaving Riley."
"I've also got a job writing on a blog. It pays $40 an article so-"
"Maya, don't worry."

She sighs again, and falls asleep.

Riley's POV
After Demon Lucas is finished, I lie on the bed, hugging the damp blanket for comfort.

I could hear them from my hotel room.

Maya's leaving me.

My best friend.

The girl who's been there for my whole life.

You're just a burden.

Weighing her down.

You're a rock, useless, worthless and you belong at the bottom of a river.

She doesn't care about you.

She's always been better than you.

All she's ever wanted is to get rid of you.

Die Riley, die.

"Get out Demon Maya," I force out of my gritted teeth.

I groggily roll onto the stone floor, slip on my jeans and search for my shirt.

Demon Lucas chucked it somewhere during the night.

Is it bad enough that they're demons, but they have to be lazy, messy demons?!

I crawl into the bathroom, and look at my pale, ugly self in the mirror.

It's not just me.

Her pure black eyes gore into mine as I turn around.

Die bitch.

I open my mouth to scream, but Demon Farkle pulls my hair and holds his ice cold hand over my mouth. Demon Riley holds up a razor sharp knife.m

Oh god the pain.

It sneaks through my body, burying itself into my bones, fire blazing inside.

They vanish as soon as they are done.

Gasps rip through me and shock my body, as I glare at the blood trickling down my arms from the gashes.

"Why won't they leave?" I wonder, as ruby water travels down the sink. I slip on my shirt, sling my rucksack over my shoulders, and walk out of the hotel room.

As I reach the end of the corridor, I turn around to check no one's behind me.

Suddenly, a boy walks out.

A boy I know.

A boy who I trust.

A boy who can see the gashes on my arms, tattoos of pain.

A boy whose eyes are sprinkled with betrayal.

"Let me go Farkle," I breathe.
