"No, I draw the line at the word transfer" I shrugged, looking Katherine and Derek up and down.

"Well we've already done it so stop whining" Derek sighed, "It's perfect for you, you'll have me to look out for you and Katherine to give you a distraction from that whole 'dumping Allison' crap"

"I have been avoiding her for a week, you two swooping in is just gonna draw attention to myself" I pointed out.

It's true. I had been avoiding Allison as much as humanly possible for the last week. I definitely wouldn't want to be Lydia right now though, she had Allison to deal with twenty four seven and she was actually trying to maintain a life at the same time. Dylan had been meaning to ask her out again but he hadn't found the right moment. He's acting all 'Switzerland' about the passive fight between Allison and I. He was still my best friend (much to Derek's dismay) but he spent a lot of the time trying to convince me to sit down and talk to Allison.

"Aw come on" Kat pouted, "Don't you want to spend free period in a dark closet like we used too?"

"Yeah... No, no way" I said quickly, "I'm not over h-"

"Yeah, yeah, we get it" Derek groaned, "She's the love of your life, she changed your world and she meant everything to you... Get it through your head dickweed, she has an undying love for her one and only Isaac Lahey"

"Dylan says Isaac kinda disappeared again... Maybe I should talk to her"

"Nuh uh, bad idea, she'll convince you to give her the remaining fragments of your heart so she can crush them all over again" Kat smiled, "I bet she's a total slut"

"She's not!" I raised my voice protectively.

"How do you know, it's not like she lost her..." Katherine trailed off, "Wow, that's rough, but then again, you lost yours to me"

"Thanks for bringing that up" I smiled sarcastically, "Just don't tell me you have all the same classes as me"

"Nope, unfortunately we aren't in English with you, that's the lesson where you have to brave Allison alone" Derek explained, "We should actually go, we have to register, see you on the lacrosse field bro"

"Yo Scott!" Dylan yelled as Derek and Katherine wondered down the hall, "I got your text about the transfers..."

"Yeah... I thought a little about talking to Allison"

"And?" Dylan asked hopefully.

"And I think it's a stupid idea" I shrugged, throwing him a sideways scowl.

"I'm definitely a better friend than Derek, and I say you should go talk to Allison" Dylan patted my back, "You two have english together now so just tell her that this doesn't have to be World War 3"

"What, so you can go out with Lydia?"

"YES!" Dylan through his hands up in triumph, "So I can go out with Lydia!"

"Just ask her out, I don't have a problem with it..." I trailed off as I reached the door to my class.

"Look, I'm sure if you or Allison had the choice you would turn back time and try again. I know that deep down, through all of that Derek and Katherine mind controlled male bravado there is an actual human soul, and you know that you want to be with her" Dylan mumbled, giving me a small smile, "You aren't happy when you're not with her"

"I'm fine..." I nodded, "I'm always fine"

"Liar" Dylan shrugged before backing away and I walked inside.

"Ah, Mr. Adams, thank you for gracing us with your humble presence" Mrs Fitz smiled sarcastically as I took my seat, "Did you find the text?"

"Uh, the text?" I asked. What text? I know no such text.

"The quote, I told each class member to research a quote from a book and bring it in to read" Mrs Fitz explained, leaning against her desk with her arms folded, "Did you find a quote"

"Mhmm, yeah" I smiled slightly, pulling a piece of paper out of my text book.

"So let me guess, you chose a psychotic, blood soaked quote from whatever zombie book you could find under your bed. Like all of your fellow male classmates?" she eye'd the school numbskull, Greenburg for a moment before turning back to me.

"No" I raised my eyebrow, earning a interested look from my english teacher and every other girl in the room.

"No?" Mrs Fitz smiled with a small sense of pride that she'd got a guy to actually open a book and read something.

"It's from 'Wizard and Glass' by Steven King" I shrugged, "It was my favourite thing to read in sixth grade"

"Oh, wow, okay. Proceed"

I nodded and looked around the class for a moment.

Allison and I made eye contact for about a second before she looked down but it felt like the longest second I have ever witnessed. It made my heart jump every time I saw her, and it had gotten so normal for me that I didn't know whether it was skipping a beat because I was still in love with her, or because I wished I wasn't. I put down the paper, I had read the book enough times, I basically lived and breathed it. Stephen King was my mom's favourite author, she thought the way he wrote was enticing.

"True love, like any other strong and addicting drug, is boring—once the tale of encounter and discovery is told, kisses quickly grow stale and caresses tiresome...except, of course, to those who share the kisses, who give and take the caresses while every sound and colour of the world seems to deepen and brighten around them" I took a pause and a breath before continuing,  "As with any other strong drug, true first love is really only interesting to those who have become its prisoners.
And, as is true of any other strong and addicting drug, true first love is dangerous"

I had no idea how much that quote really made sense until now. Love was a drug. A crazy, addictive, monstrous, amazing drug which could fill up one person completely and leave another person with absolutely nothing... I'm not sure why but it kinda changed my perspective on love. I wasn't okay with what Allison did, in fact, I hated what she did, and I definitely hate Isaac, but I was glad that I'd met her... I was glad I got just that small taste of Allison Argent's world that I got. I'm sad now, but I was dying before. I think I would be dead inside already if I hadn't met her.

"Thank you Scott, that was lovely, absolutely beautiful" Mrs Fitz sighed, "I didn't know you liked Stephen King that much"

"My mom, she liked it" I pointed out quickly, "I wouldn't of known anything about him without her"

"Well, she must of been lovely" Mrs Fitz smiled reassuringly, not sure whether she wanted to continue or change the subject completely, "Well you'll be doing a paired assignment for the next week, you have to come up with a list of decent quotes, analyse them and hand them in for next Friday" the class of students groaned in unison, "Greenburg and Malia, Liam and Hayden, Spencer and Stefan, Emily and Toby, Theo and Kira, Mason and Caroline, Scott and Allison, Damon and Aria, and Tracy with Matt"

Allison... Allison with me. Me and Allison working together. Alone. No. Not happening.

"Um, Mrs Fitz" I raised my hand and she strolled over, "Does it have to be? Do I have to be with her"

"Mr. Adams, sometimes in life we have to make a choice, sometimes we make the wrong one, like when I turned down a college job for this place" she explained quietly, "But in situations like this" she gestured to my ex girlfriend who was chatting with Kira in an attempt to distract herself from me, "You don't have a choice. I advise you make the most of it, grab the bull by its horns"

"Right..." I muttered.

This was going to be tough.
