I pulled up outside the already booming party, for an invite only party it was huge. Red cups were scattered on the lawn, people were everywhere either dancing or chatting. I took a deep breath and tried to enjoy my last moments of peace.
The was a loud bang on my window which nearly made me jump out of my skin. I looked over to make out who it was in the darkness.
"Dylan!" I hissed, pushing open the door so it hit him. I climbed out quickly and automatically had to cover my ears from the music, after I regained my hearing Dylan handed me a cup.
"You look like you could use it" he grinned. I wanted to say I wasn't drinking but what the hell.
"Have you gone in yet?" I asked, raising my voice over the music.
"Nah! I have thought it would be better to make an entrance together" he laughed. I nodded and he grabbed my black jacket and pulled me to the door which was already open. Toby was standing nearby and looked really surprised to see us, I guess he and Lydia don't talk a lot. He started to make a move to stop us coming in but another figure got there first.
"Hey" Allison smiled nervously. She looked stunning in a white t shirt and blue jacket. I couldn't workout what to say to her so I just stood there, open mouthed.
"Well this has been great, we're gonna go party now" said Dylan trying to be the icebreaker, he steered me past Allison and into the main party. Luckily he took us as far away from Toby as possible and we we're in the centre of the rave in Lydia's backyard. Everyone was leaping in the pool and dancing like crazy. I realised I still hadn't said anything since I saw Allison but when I looked over to Dylan he was already cannon balling into the pool, I shook my head and looked round for something to do.
I felt someone's fingers trail across my back. I turned around to face the barley dressed hostess.
"Hey Scott!" Lydia grinned.
"Hi Lydia..." I replied raising an eyebrow.
Lydia stood in front of me with her arms crossed as if I was doing something wrong. Eventually she gave up.
"So you have a crush on my BFF?" She asked. I immediately spluttered and choked like I had no oxygen.
"N-no way, I've been here a day!" I stuttered. It was true, it was my first day and I was already because accused of something that wasn't true... Well wasn't really true, but kind of...
"Oh, yes way" she nodded, finding the whole discussion mildly amusing, "but let's get something straight" her voice darkened a little, "she just got out of a big break up, with he who must not be named. She doesn't need any more drama in her life and you look like a boy with a lot of secrets"
"Like I said, I've been here a day" my tone matched hers and it seemed to surprise her considerably, "And why would you assume I have any secrets?"
She raised an eyebrow, "I am actually very talented for digging for the truth, it's one of my many talents, but you, Scott, I can't figure you out." She gave a bitter sweet giggle, "You could be an axe murderer or an escaped convict for all I know..."
"Why do you care who I am?"
"Because Allison is like my sister, she falls easy but doesn't hit the ground quite right, I will always be there to catch her... But you won't"
And with a flick of strawberry blonde hair she disappeared into the crowd, I looked around and my eyes locked with a familiar face.
"Oh shit... Oh please god no!" I hissed to myself, hoping it was all in my head. It definitely wasn't. Ben Charleston was chatting up some girls in the corner, he would do anything to find out where I was. From his tall, muscular features and his stern face you'd think he was rather independent, but the reality was he's a suck up that would do anything to get close to my old team and Katherine. The thought of him telling my ex I was only a three hour drive from Whittemore High School sent shivers down my spine.
"Hey, Scotty you have to try this punch!", spluttered a soaking wet Dylan from behind me. I looked from him back to Ben, who was now scoping the party for a new way to pass time, his eyes fell on me, he squinted through the vast amount of people trying to make out whether it was me. I threw myself behind Dylan, using him as an intoxicated shield and escaping from the backyard and into the house.
I wasn't fully focused on were I was going so it half gave me a heart attack when someone grabbed my shoulder. Toby was staring at me in a mixture of rage and confusion.
"What are you doing Adams?" He asked, a bunch of people were watching us now, which wasn't exactly what I needed in the current situation. So I did what any other, completely retarded teenager would do and slipped away from him before he could stop me and I dragged Dylan outside where he instantly threw up.
"Can... You... Drive tonight... I think I had a little too much beverage" he chuckled, pulling his keys out of his jeans and slamming them in my palm.
I managed to get the car door open and guide him into the passenger seat by the time Toby had found us.
"Going so soon?" He smirked. I tried my best to ignore him and walk away but instead I felt his hands clench into fists on my shirt and my back press against the metal of Dylan's truck.
"I don't have time for this" I stuttered, but his grip only tightened.
"Oh, come on new boy! Cut the innocent crap! What's your secret?" He hissed through gritted teeth.
"Why does everyone care about my secrets!" I shouted back.
"Because, we all know the freak! You. Really. Are..." His grip loosened on me suddenly and he stepped back, waiting for me to make a move. I looked at the floor, my eyes burning with rage. I won't hurt him. I won't. I won't. I won't. I won't...
"What's going on?" Asked a sweet, familiar voice, I looked up towards the house. Allison was standing right behind Toby, who was still glaring at me.
"Nothing Ally. Go inside." Ordered Toby, but she didn't move.
"I'm not your girlfriend Toby" she snarled, "I don't follow your every command" she stepped in between him and I boldly.
"Fine!" Toby growled, nodding angrily, "I'll go back inside then"
He turned and stomped up the lawn and back into the crowd quickly. I let out a deep sigh, then coughed awkwardly, realising that the entire time I had just been staring at Allison like a complete weirdo. She didn't seemed bothered by it though, in fact, when she turned her attention to me, her pale face warned into a kind smile.
"Sorry about him..." She said.
"Don't worry about it, I just want to get this guy home" I pointed at Dylan who's face was smushed up against the window due to the fact that he'd passed out, "I think he needs to sleep it off"
She giggled lightly, "you're a good friend Scott, even if you have only known him for two days"
"I wouldn't be talking to you if it weren't for him" I smiled back, shoving my hands in my pockets.
"Would it be bad if you weren't talking to me?" She asked sweetly.
"Maybe, I guess I just like talking to you"
We stood in silence for what seemed a lifetime, of course I didn't mind spending a lifetime looking at her, but it sounds way to Shakespearian for me.
"I better go then" I said quickly.
"Oh, yeah, totally, go" she replied, sounding slightly disappointed.
"I'll see you at school..."
