Jace sat down just as the band began to play.
Kylie told them that the first number focused mainly on the violins, and indeed it did. The music swelled from the stage and seemed to capture the audience's full attention.
Dan glanced over at Phil, who was sitting next to him. This is what I get for not telling Tess about kissing Phil... A whole world of awkward, and it doesn't help that Phil looks really good in a suit.
Tesa sat by Phil, one seat away from the aisle. She was refusing to look at Jace.
Dan squinted at the stage; he could just barely make out Kylie's small figure on the left.
He thought he heard Jace whisper something to Tesa, but she didn't reply.
Before Dan knew it, the song was over and everyone was applauding. Song after song followed, until intermission finally arrived.
"Where are the lights?" Phil asked.
Yeah, don't lights normally turn on?
Tesa might have frowned, but it was hard to see in the darkness. "Well, I need a bathroom break. Jace, come with."
"Uh, okay," Jace said.
Dan started to panic. The last time he'd been left with Phil he'd had another flashback. This maybe was not the best of ideas.
"Dan? You look kind of pale," Phil commented. "Though it's hard to tell in the dark,"
Dan took a shallow breath. It was only going to be more awkward the longer he dragged it out. "I'm just worried because you-know-i-kinda-kissed-you-and-it-was-really-rushed-and-then-i-ran-away-so-are-you-mad-at-me?-causeitotallyunderstandifyouare, sorry."
Phil blinked. "What? Are you talking about that kiss? Sorry, I didn't mean to push you like that, Dan." He ran a hand through his hair. "It's just that, as embarrassing and cheesy as this sounds, I like you, Dan. Like as in more than friends. So I thought, hey, maybe he likes me back. I swear I didn't mean to rush you, honest!"
Dan's thoughts:

Dan's voice:

Eventually: "Um, what?"
Phil blushed. "Did you not just hear what I said? But I promise I won't force you into anything, and if you don't like me back I can understand."
"Hey, Phil?"
"Yeah, Dan?"
"Okay, um... This is so stupid but I like you too. Like more than friends." I sure have some interesting shoes. "So, uh, yeah. Cool."
"C-Cool," Phil smiled, grinning ear to ear.
"Um, so sorry, but can we stop talking about this right now? Wow that sounded rude."
"No, tell me what bothers you. We can totally talk later. Just don't go avoiding me, okay?"
"M'kay." Dan mumbled.
Two minutes passed.
This is awkward... When are Tess and Jace coming back? Oh god.
"Um... Dan?" Phil cautiously asked. "Can... Can I..."
Phil was bright red. Of course, seeing him like this immediately made Dan flush red too.
"W-What?" He stammered.
"Can I... Holdyourhand?"
Turns out Phil had some interesting shoes as well.
Phil... My hand... Hold?! As in boyfriend hold?!
Dan was so sure his eyes had never been bigger. "S-sure,"
"C-Cool." Phil blushed, then carefully touched Dan's hand.
Dan jumped. "Ah, sorry!"
"You're fine. Um..." Phil took Dan's hand in his own, gently lacing their fingers together.
Cool.
When the show resumed, Tesa and Jace hadn't retaken their seats.

"Really? You're taking me on your bathroom break because you want them to have privacy?" Jace said mockingly.
Tesa glared at him. "Look, something is up with Dan, he's really jumpy. I have a feeling something will happen if we leave them alone."
"Okay," Jace rolled his eyes.
"What happened with Kyles? That's the only reason you came, right?"
"I knew something was going to go down. I'll admit, the tactics I used were a bit..." Jace scratched the back of his neck, sheepish, "extreme."
Tesa glared at him. "How so?"
"Grounding. She normally uses it for emergencies, but my mind blanked. It worked, though."
"That's literally not even bad. And now she's calmer. I hate this, but... Good job," she mumbled.
Jace's face lit up. "What was that? Did you just... Thank me?"
"Shut up." Tesa said, cheeks red. "We're going back."
He skipped down the hall, ecstatic. "Can I get after Phil if he's coming on to Dan? Can I?"
Tesa grabbed his shirt collar. "No, cause we're not going back to sit with them. I know how you are." She released his shirt.
"Bleh." Jace frowned. "Can we at least seat stalk them?" He asked, nudging Tesa lightly.
The corners of her mouth lifted. "Maybe,"
