"The curse is broken!" Ashley exclaimed as she sat at the lunch table.
"What curse?" I asked, biting into an apple. I've always loved apples.
"The one on the Volkov place." My confusion must have been written all over my face because she let out a frustrated sigh. "The whole bled out teenager thing."
"Ah." Nodding I looked down at my book.
"You know, it would have been cool to see what it was like."
"The mansion?"
"Yeah." Ash ran her nails over the tables surface.
"Sorry I ruined it." She shrugged.
"Ladies." Mike walked up, a smile plastered across his face.
"Hey Mikey." He smiled at me.
"Mind if I sit?"
"Yes."
"Too bad." He pushed my legs that were propped up in a chair over and sat. "Whats on the menu today?"
"An apple." Mike scrunched his nose up.
"Rabbit food Paley? I would have expected better." Before I could register what was happening he snatched the fruit from my hand and took a bite.
"Well now that you've contaminated it." He gave me a cheeky smile. I flipped him off.
"You wound me."
"Stop flirting in front of me please." Ashley interrupted. "It's sickening."
"We're not flirting." I defended.
"I beg to differ."
"Sorry, I'll make my intentions more clear, Lina you wanna see a movie with me?" I would have choked on the apple if I had it anymore.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me."
"Oh, uh, I dunno Mike." He gave me his signature puppy dog look. Ugh. "Fine."
"Awesome. It's a date." He stood and took my apple with him.
"Well that was weird."
"My brother is full of weird." Ashley shook her head. "C'mon you, time for physics!" She clapped sarcastically.
"Yippee." I cheered. With that we headed to class, leaving the strange hold the lunchroom had on us.
~
"Ok, I have to admit that was awesome."
"I told you!" I had made Mike watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show with me. He tried to fight me on it but I won in the end.
"It just sounded so crazy!"
"It is. That's the point. It's truly amazing though." I smiled to myself.
"Wanna walk? It's beautiful out."
"What about your car?"
"I can come back." He wrapped an arm around me and pulled me close. We walked around town for a while, stars shone overhead. Soon we came upon the only dance club in our town. Music pulsated inside, the aroma flowing out into the street was not pleasant. Just before we passed the door a couple stumbled out. The man had his arm around the very drunk woman. I felt as if I knew this man, his black hair looked familiar and when he turned I could swear I had seen those blue eyes before.
"You alright man?" Mike stepped up.
"Yeah we're fine." His voice made an image flash across my mind.
"You sure? Need a cab?" Though Mike had been the one talking the stranger and I had never broken eye contact.
"I'm sure."
"Aaaaallleeexxxx." The drunken woman tugged on "Alex's" sleeve."
"What is it Vivian?" He asked, still watching me.
"Can we gooooo."
"Sure." Finally he looked away from me and I could blink. "Thanks for the concern." He nodded at Mike and began leading the intoxicated woman away.
"Well that was strange." Mike laughed and pulled me along.
"Yeah. Strange."
Soon we arrived at my front door. The lights were off, signaling my parents were asleep. I stood under the archway, facing Mike.
"Well... Thanks."
"I had fun." He smiled softly. I had never seen this side of Mike before. I liked it.
"So did I." Opening his arms he gave me a tight hug before tentatively kissing my cheek.
"I'll see you tomorrow Paley." My long hated nickname actually brought a smile to my face.
"Dont count on it, Mikey!"
"You'd never skip, teachers pet!" I stuck my tongue out at him before heading inside.
The house was eerily quiet. I had never liked it like this. Quickly heading to my room I shut the door and turned on my lamp. Opening my laptop I did something so stalkery I was ashamed. I searched the name Alex in my town. More than a thousand results came up so I searched Alex and Vivian. When I came up with nothing I closed the laptop and got ready for bed.
"Did you really search his name? God you're pathetic Rozalina." Slipping under the covers I faced my window. The moon was shining radiantly. Things seemed to be going my way this year.
I liked that.
