I stay laying down, motionless, waiting for the monster to return and finish me off. The sun bathes into the clearing again and the fog disintegrates. I lay there, in complete shock. Not knowing what was going to happen next. The only thought that scampered through my mind was, "What the hell..." So many questions arose but none of which I had answers to. Oddly, a mysterious burning but rather icy feeling sprung up in my arm. I direct my attention to it. There are two wide, dark, incisions there. It looked as if my skin was burnt black. However, that's not where the burning originates from. Deep inside my skin, in my veins, something was sizzling. I begin to feel the nerves in my arm beginning to shut down? OH fuck...it doesn't take me long to figure out what's wrong. My arm is slowly being consumed by paralysis...That thing...when it bit me it must have injected something into my bloodstream. I begin to notice that it's spreading! Shit! If this gets to my heart...I'm dead...fuck fuck fuck...I use my other arm and push myself into seating position. I need to get out of here and to The Society. But I don't know the way out...And judging by the rate it's spreading, it'll get to my legs soon enough. I won't be able to make it out in time...Parker...where is he?! Last time I heard him was when the monster...Oh please no! No! No! Frantically my head bobbles around, searching.
"Parker..."I feebly speak.
There, in the corner, against the old oak tree, is a disfiguringly lump, it's Parker. A red liquid flows out of his matted hair, staining the bright blonde. Anger immediately juts forward in me, causing me to abruptly to stand up. It makes me feel a little woozy, but I don't' care. I run to him, afraid that he's hurt and furious with the thing that caused him to be in this state. My not paralyzed hand shakes him roughly.
"Oh please don't be dead."
My hand slides down to his chest, searching for his heartbeat.
"Boom, boom..." It faintly pumps.
A sigh releases from my mouth, but it doesn't linger for long. My hand races back up to his shoulder.
"Wake up!" I say between my gritted teeth.
There is no response. He's knocked out.
My hand briskly slaps across his face, in attempt to wake him. His head only lazily flops onto the other side. Ughh, wake up! I don't have much time. A crinkle appears between my fore head, and my eyebrows furrow as I rapidly try and grasp for a solution. Ughh, I throw my head back, frustrated at the situation at hand. The pressure of the lack of time smothers me underneath. I run my hand through my hair, frustratedly trying to calm myself down. The action resolves to remnants of dew resting between my fingers. Dew...water...that's it! Quickly, I use my telekinesis to draw up all the dew. It's only a small handful, but it's the best I have right now. I throw it upon his face, hoping he'll wake up. His eyes squint, reacting to the cold water. Slowly his mouth moves slightly. Parker's eyelids inch open, revealing the irises. His hand reaches up to his cheek and rubs it tentatively at the spot where I smacked him. Then, his attention flutters back to me, confusion stares straight at me. But I don't have the time to explain everything. I can already feel my other arm beginning to paralyze.
"Parker, take me to The Society." I demand very seriously.
He continues to look at me with those confused eyes.
Frustration crowds my emotions again.
"I'm quickly being paralyzed. If it reaches my heart, I'm dead..."
Parker is still confused, but the words 'I'm dead' seems to wake him up. He stands up to his feet and tries to grab my limp arm. We race through the forest, scrambling to exit. My two useless arms swing helplessly back and forth.
"What happened," Parker asks between his running breaths.
"I'm not sure, but something attacked me and bit me. It injected something into my body and now I can feel the paralysis spreading through my body..."
"Where was I?"
"I'm not sure what happened to you, but one second you were there, and then the next you were gone. I think you got knocked out. Do you know what happened?"
"Not really. I remember holding onto you and then something big grabbed me and ripped me from you. And then I think I hit my head on something hard."
He reaches his hand to the back of his head. Fresh blood imprints onto his fingers.
"Damn it." He speaks under his breath.
"Ugnnnh," I grunt.
One of my legs collapses to the ground. My body helplessly follows in tow. Parker stops his pace and comes to me.
"How much further do we have to go?" I ask.
"We are halfway."
"Shit!"
We are only halfway out and one of legs is already suffering paralysis.
"I'm not going to make it," I scarcely whisper.
"Yes you are!" Parker demands.
He stoops down and effortlessly picks me up. My eyes shut as I begin to relax.
"Hold on Lacey, you're going to be okay."
I slowly nod.
Parker rushes through the forest with me in his arms. With me in tow, his pace wasn't as fast as before. I peek through my eyes and see sweat beginning to build at the roots of his hair.
We reach the clearing shortly. The paralyzation feeling is starting to creep up my other leg. Parker quickly throws me into the front seat.
"Do you remember where it is?" I weakly ask.
"Yes. Don't worry Lacey, I'll get you there. You're going to be okay."
I nod my head at that statement. As much as I want to believe it, I can't. The Society is at least a ten minute drive away. I'm not going to make it.
"Parker, if I don't make it, I want you to know that----"
"Don't talk like that Lacey. You're going to be fine!"
"No. Stop lying to yourself. Just listen to what I have to say."
"Lacey, you're going to make it. Everything is going to be okay."
"Parker! Listen to me okay?"
"Okay..."
I inhale a tired breath and speak.
"If I don't make it I want you to know that I've enjoyed all the time we've spent together. And you mean a lot to me..."
I wait for Parker to say something, but he doesn't. His eyes are fixated on the road.
"Say something..." I plead.
"Lacey, I don't want to think about you dying. I don't think I could take it if another person that means something to me was taken away."
I notice a slight hint of pink rising in his cheeks, but it doesn't last. He brushes the faint color away. I smile pleasingly at him as I close my eyes again. The paralysis has consumed both my legs and arms now. It begins to attack my other muscles and organs, leaving me in a weakening state.
"Hold on Lacey."
I hear Parker softly whisper. His arms scoop me up again and I feel a breeze whimper by. He begins to run through the alley way with me in his arms, laying there like a lifeless body. The paralysis begins to creep nearer to my lungs. Oxygen is starting to slip away. I try to gasp for air, but I'm too weak. It begins to draw near my heart, ready to take that over too. Then, my vision begins to fade away, leaving me in the lone dark. I allow my eyelids to flutter shut. A bright luminescent light shines over me as I completely collapse in Parker's arms. The last thing I hear is Parker's voice desperately screaming.
