Before opening the doors and walking into the room to talk with Madame Elizabeth, Brody grabs me by the shoulders and pulls me into him.
"Are you okay?" He whispers as he rests his cheek on the top of my head.
"I'm not sure. I wasn't expecting this and it's just a lot to process. I feel like every time I find out something about myself or my mother, so much becomes revealed. I didn't realize how complicated everything was."
"Shh, it's okay. I'm here with you Lacey okay."
I lift my head and stare into those golden eyes of his. He smiles back at me and his eyes crinkle at the corners, displaying how much he cares for me and wants me to be okay.
"I'm ready to go inside Brody."
He reaches for the door and holds me protectively as we walk in.
We see Madame Elizabeth sitting comfortably in her chair, still keeping that stern face of hers. She looks me up and down and I see her eyes starting to water. Her face begins to soften and she opens up her arms wide at me.
"Come here child," she speaks in a soft tone.
I walk over to her embrace as she strokes one of her long fingers down my face.
"You look so much like my son Dimitri....I miss him so much. You have grown so much Nanette. Katarina relayed the story to me telepathically and I'm sorry for what you have been through."
She then proceeds to hug me and then looks back to examine my face.
"So much like him...so much like him,"she whispers as her voice trails off.
This was not what I was expecting at all. I awkwardly clear my throat and give a slight bow before returning to Brody's side.
Madame Elizabeth closes her eyes and takes a deep breath before staring back at me. The sternness has seeped back into her face.
"I am sorry Nanette, there is not much I think we can do for you in terms of finding your mother. As you are aware, we did not even know she was gone or even much about you. However, we would love to have you stay with us a while. I think it would be good for us and good for you to have...well have some family around for a change."
"Family...." I never imagined I would hear those words. I look up towards Brody searching his face for some advice on what I should do.
"You should stay for a bit and meet your family. Maybe you can learn something more." Brody speaks to me telepathically.
"Will you stay with me?"
"Of course." He kisses my forehead gently for reassurance.
"I would like to meet the rest of the....of the family.." I utter out.
A slight curve forms at the corner of Madame Elizabeth's mouth as her eyes soften a little. She speaks telepathically to one of the attendants in the room asking him to gather the immediate family.
After what seemed like a long 30 minutes, everyone had filed into the room. There were a total of 9 people of all ages. The began introducing themselves. First was Katarina and her husband Varden and their three children Sevrin, Deverick, and Mirla. Next was Dimitri's younger brother Leron and his wife Karsci and their daughter Raissa. Last were Dimitri's two younger sisters, Joceli and Yvonna. All of them had that beautiful dark hair, rich colored eyes, and that air of royalty.
The younger children were very excited to meet me, especially Mirla and Raissa. They had dubbed me the long lost princess and made up fascinating stories about me being whisked away by dragons and my life mate was the knight who had finally rescued me. Dimitri's siblings and their spouses had a mixed reactions. Some were delighted, some concerned, and others were confused on how they should treat or address me. I smiled at everyone politely, but did not say much.
