I have no coherent sense of what time it is. It must have been sometime late at night. My body can detect the weariness trying to crawl upon me, but I don't think I can sleep. Thoughts about my new responsibility and what to do cloud my head. I look around with dull puffy eyes, searching for perhaps a hope a sign, anything. In the middle of my thoughts the door opens gently but resolves in a hard slam into the door frame. Brody walks in and slumps beside me. His frame hangs loosely on his body, even his face is drooped in a sad but angry manner. I tilt my head to him, silently asking, are you going to be okay? He replies by clenching his jaw and then dropping his eyes to the floor.

"Audric has constantly been here for me. He is more than just a companion. He's like the brother I never had. And just thinking about the upcoming future without him imparting jokes along my side, without him as my adult or close friend of guidance, god damnit. This fucking sucks!"

Instead of trying to comfort him I look to him with question.

"Sorry to interrupt...I know this is not very appropriate of the moment..but what is that? I've noticed that one minute you can talk like your all proper or something than the next it's like modern slang."

"Oh that. Well us, Divames, prefer to speak in a "proper" manner, but you don't expect a kid in this era to speak in this way do you? It would be found rather out of place. Therefore I took up "modern slang" as you put it. In addition, I find humans quite extraordinary, the way of how simple they are constructed and the way in which their minds operate in that simplistic and never more than that fashion. It made me wonder if I could possibly survive in the environment in which they successfully do. It turns out I can."

"Oh I see. You wanted a normal life?"

"You can put it that way. It was more or less started out as curiosity, but I suppose it expanded to that want. Sometimes I do wish to be normal, not having to drink blood as my diet. I wonder what the taste of a hamburger is like..."

"You don't know the taste of a hamburger?"

" I don't. It tastes bland. I can't even describe what it taste like to me."

"But is blood not sufficient? Doesn't it taste good to you?"

"Yes, it does taste good, but that doesn't mean it stops me from my curiosity of wondering what the taste of a hamburger is. I must admit, I have observed people eat a hamburger and they eat it as if it's of a spectacular taste."

"Haha. So you watch people eat? Creeper..."

"No no, not like that. It just...intrigues me."

"Haha. That just sounds so creepy."

He wrinkles his eyebrows together and looks at me as if I was judging him unfairly. Brody turns to the other direction, giving me his back.

"Aww Broddddyyy, don't be like that," I say innocently.

He stays turned that direction, obviously trying to throw me a cold shoulder.

I lunge my arms around his neck, like I would do to a friend, and say, "You know I'm just kidding."

He puts on a sad expression and throws his head into his arms, hiding his face from me.

"Brody?" I question.

He shakes his head and keeps his body in the same position.

"I was just kidding," I say more seriously.

He shakes his head again, but this time I hear small sniffles.

I throw my arms around him thinking he is really hurt by my previous comment.
