Chapter 32

Obediently, the swarm of Divames refocus their blood thirsty attentions. They eye Parker and The Boss delectably, licking their lips in synchronized satisfaction. Stop, I say telepathically, feebly hoping that my meager plea would alter their conclusion. They dismiss it, as if it was unsaid. Stop, I plea again. The crowd begins to move, ignoring my words. Stop. I repeat for the third time. One Divames eyes me. He starts at my wounded leg and stops at my eyes. He looks at me deeply.

"We can not and will not. It is against our natural behavior. A meal so easily presented at our doors, we cannot decline the offer. Some of us are also closer to the dark side. Understand, this is something we cannot turn away from. Furthermore, these two seems rather tasty. They fit the standards of our liking. We will not kill them, for taking their life means taking our own too. Don't fret. We will merely suck them until the brink of death. Their blood so warm, so fragrant, it beckons us."

And with that, he returned to the mass group and began walking towards them.

I look over at both The Boss and Parker, who are both unaware of what is to come. The Boss and the female Elder are in combat. Every mound of earth she pushes towards him, he vaporizes it. She's a long distance offense fighter, while he is close distance offense fighter. He was holding up pretty well, but he couldn't attack her, it was a matter of time before one of them got too exhausted to fight anymore. I turn my attention to Parker and Brody, still head-to-head. Nothing had changed, besides a couple more bruises and scars on Parker.

The Divames have split up into two groups, one going for Parker, while the other going for The Boss. Pitifully, I try to think of something quick, something, anything to save them. I look down at my leg, I still haven't completely healed it yet. I don't have the time to right now! Desperately, I look at both groups, hoping to scrounge up some last minute plan.

"Call them off, call them off!" I yell via telepathy to the female elder and Brody. They are too busy with their own battles to neither hear nor be aware of what is happening.

I place my hand onto my thigh, trying to heal the broken bone in it. Taking a risk, and hoping for the best. Perhaps if I were mobile again, I can do something. All the while I furiously scan my surroundings looking for hope, anything to stop them from feeding on the ones lying closest to my heart. I reach out with my other hand, doing the best I can to lessen the number of Divames. It's a futile attempt, one that I had tried earlier with no promising result. I release my grip on my broken leg for now the bones have been mended. With both hands, I fling the tiles on the ground at them, knocking a few in the back of the group unconscious, but not all of them.

"Stop!" I scream with anger. The emotions inside of me feel like they are going to explode and overwhelm me. I can feel the tears of frustration dangling on the rims of my eyes.

"STOP!"

At that moment everyone in the hallway lurches forward, holding onto their stomach, each with a twisted facial expression. My breath comes in and out in short harsh gasps along with my whole body trembling as if I was cold. The world around me spins and morphs into a foggy blur as I feel my head hit something hard and wet, and then everything went pitch black.

"Lacey, Lacey..." speaks a masculine voice with a tang of french.

"mmm.." I mumble groggily back.

A pair of strong sweaty hands shakes my shoulders gently as the voice continues to call my name. I flutter my eye lids open and see a muscular male, with dark hair and eyes. His eyes read of a concealed worry, but at the same time confusion. His face is all dirty and blood stained but there are no cuts evident. I sit up, blinking my eyes several more times, not exactly sure where I am. The male continues staring at me questionably, but I ignore the look. Leaning against the wall is a rather old appearing female with two slightly over middle aged males on her flanks. The female is relaxing on the wall, while the other two scowl at me bitterly. I look to my front, past the dark haired and eyed male, and see something almost disbelieving. I blink my eyes again and rub them, trying to clarify my vision. In front I see a middle aged man and a very good looking guy. Both are covered in grime and seem to be locked in a cage? Not some iron cage but it looks to be earth? Their eyes pierce me pleading, advising me to be careful. They eye each other nervously and eye me back, holding the same expression they had before. I stare at them, dumb folded, but then the cute boy mouths my name.
