"welcome to london, united kingdom where the local time is 11:56 p.m. we'll be taxiing to the gate for the next few minutes, so please remain seated with your seat belts fastened until the captain has turned off the seat belt sign."
aspyn heard the flight attendant greet the passengers through the speakers. in her almost 24-hour journey, she only got to drift into sleep for about 4 hours; even though she tried so hard not to think about anything and just sleep, her mind wasn't able to do it.
she was just so bothered with her thoughts, and she felt so jealous with the people who can fall asleep as soon as they close their eyes. those lucky motherchuckers.
few minutes later, the airplane has landed and the passengers were adviced to get their luggage and proceed to the doors immediately. in the process of doing so, aspyn saw a tall figure standing two bodies away from her, wearing a black snapback under what seemed to be blonde hair. aspyn found herself staring at the back of this certain person for a good minute before realizing that she has seen it before - not so long ago, actually.
when she was just about to go near that person, he walked towards the door and out; she missed her chance.
"damnit!" she hissed, lowering her voice afterwards when she remembered there was a minor sitting beside her.
"why?" the little boy nugget - his name was daniel - asked her, walking with her side by side as they made their way out of the airplane.
"why what?" aspyn said, slowing down a little so dan could catch her pace.
"why were you staring at that boy in the airplane?" he teased, a devious smirk appearing at her face. "is he your boy, uh, oh! crush?"
"no," aspyn declined, rolling her eyes sarcastically at him. "he's just a boy."
"hey!" daniel slapped her arm lightly, trying his best to look hurt and offended. "i'm a boy."
"no, you're not," aspyn laughed, and then moments later she heard little sniffs coming from daniel. she looked over to see him wiping his tears with the sleeve of his sweater. "oh my god, don't cry! people would think i'm going to murder you."
"you aren't?" daniel stuttered, glancing at her, which she just snorted at. "don't be silly. i meant you're not a boy because you're a man!"
that seemed to do the work, as it enlightened his face and brought back his silly facade. she saw him open his backpack in search of something. "what're you looking for?"
"here you go," daniel handed out a zip-lock filled with goodies to her, which had a note outside of it. "my mum told me to give it to whoever i seat next to the plane with."
aspyn gladly took the zip-lock from his outreached hand, thanking him and reading the note, "thank you for seating next to dan and tolerating his annoying-ness. we hope you didn't turn deaf from his singing. from, dan's parents."
(daniel did sing a lot while they were on the plane.)
"is your family here to come and get you?" aspyn asked, getting her phone out of her bag to check her messages, if there were even any.
"yeah," dan said, his eyes widening at what he saw across from them. "there they are!"
"daniel?" aspyn said, putting her phone down to speak to the boy. "oh my god, dan, where are y-"
when she turned around to find the nugget, she wasn't surprised to see him hugging a woman with the same hair color as his, together with some other family members, she assumed. aspyn took a moment to look at dan's family; huge smiles were plastered on each of their faces upon seeing the seven year-old. they looked so happy, so pure, so loving ... aspyn wished her family was like theirs.instead, her stepfather was too caught up with his business affairs that aspyn felt like he forgot the fact that he had a daughter; while her mother ... the same situation applied.
"aspyn, come here!" dan called out for her, distracting her from her thoughts. "mum and dad wants to meet you!"
"why hello there, young lady," the woman greeted her, pulling her into a warm embrace. "thank you for keeping my son company."
"oh, it's no problem, ma'am," aspyn replied with a smile; she loved looking over little children for it reminded her of when she was a little kid without responsibilities and worries in life. "i've always been fond of kids."
"really?" the man standing beside the woman spoke. "that's splendid!"
in the midst of all the chitchat, aspyn remembered of her hours, her time. "i'd love to keep talking with you, but sadly i have to go now."
"that's alright," the woman said, patting her shoulder in reassurance. "but i'd like to have coffee with you some time, my way of giving thanks to you."
"that's not really necessary," aspyn mumbled, but when she saw the disappointment in the woman's face, she changed her mind; she never wanted to disappoint anyone, she never wanted to be a disappointment (even though she already was + she really likes coffee). "but if you insist, i can give you my number so you can call me."
"fantastic!" the woman's from turned upside down after aspyn gave her digits to her. "i'll call you."
"alright," she said and bid goodbye to dan and his family.
aspyn glanced at her wrist as soon as she turned her heel and went for the other direction, anticipation running down her veins.
"oh my god," she whispered, stopping her tracks after reading her clock. she felt her head spinning, her muscles trembling, like she was going to collapse any minute now. but before she could, she felt someone clash into her in the middle of a busy hallway, her head hitting the floor with a body resting on top of her.
"oh my god," a deep voice, an all-to-familiar voice, said. "i am so sorry."
aspyn's vision was a little blurry, so she couldn't see the face of the person in front of her, but she could see a figure standing up and reaching out a hand for her. she took it, and helped herself up from the ground.
"sorry," the voice said once again, and it looked like the source was coming from the tall figure down on his knees, his back facing her, to pick up the luggage scattered on the tiled floor.
"it's not mainly your fault," aspyn said as soon as her vision cleared up. "i was standing in the middle of a hallway in an airport so it was most likely for me to-"
"aspyn?" another familiar voice said, coming from behind her. when she turned around, she saw the last person on earth that she wanted to see right now. "aspyn!"
"oh no," aspyn felt her heart literally ache when she saw him; he was coming closer and closer to her by the second. "not again."
