"m-me?" aspyn stuttered, her eyes practically balling out of their sockets, and so was his. "you remember me?"
"what?" he shouted over the music, moving closer to her. "i can't hear you!"
"well you should at least turn off the goddamn music first!" aspyn yelled, causing the door adjacent to the one she's standing in front of open, revealing a middle-aged woman holding a remote control.
"can you two keep it down?" she yelled, making aspyn and the boy zip their mouths. "i'm trying to watch some reality show on tv here and the boy is saying his vows and i can't hear what he was saying, thanks to you two!"
"sorry, sir - i mean, ma'am" the boy murmured, looking down at his toes, away from the death glare of his angry neighbor. "we'll keep it down."
"it's his fault, not mine!" aspyn raised both her hands, making the man raise an eyebrow at her. "he started all this and if it wasn't for - "
"i don't want to hear anything else, all right?" the woman looked at her, then to him, then to her again. she then gave them a dismissive wave, disappearing inside the door.
aspyn could've sworn she heard her mumble something along the lines of, "i'm so sick of young boyfriends and girlfriends bickering and then making out later on and get pregnant and die."
but then again, that could've been just a figment of her imagination.
it was like a huge lump on aspyn's throat disappeared when the door closed, but when she turned around and saw the blonde boy, the lump came back again; her heart beat was rising by the second.
the music was still on, but it wasn't loud and agressive anymore; it was low and calming - an acoustic song, one of which aspyn has never heard before. the voice hovering over the soft strumming of the guitar sounded beautiful, as if it was coming out from the lips of an angel.
"wait, don't tell me, heaven is a place on earth. i wish i could rewind all the times that i didn't show you what you're really worth."
aspyn made a mental note to find out the title of this song before her time runs out. it was the only sound that could be heard at that very moment, and aspyn couldn't help but stare into luke's eyes, getting lost in there.
"hey!" the boy waved his hands at her now red face, smirking deviously. "like what you see, huh?"
"what?" she said, trying to act oblivious and all. "oh, no. no, no, no. i was just ... i think i've seen you before."
"yeah?" he said, nervousness at the tip of his tongue. "when?"
"i can't remember ... "
"i ..." he said, and then laughed slightly. "i offered you a seat back at the airport in sydney but you denied. then i bumped into you and we fell down the floor and - "
"of course i remember that, but there's just something else." she spoke. "anyway, you're luke, right? oh, and that was you, too?"
"yeah, yeah i'm luke."
"sorry about that, i wasn't looking straight and ..."
"it's cool. no pressure."
aspyn laughed slightly, reminiscing those precious moments, while the tall boy giggled. yes, he freaking giggled.
just as she was to say something stupid in the lines of 'so are you seeing anyone at the moment?,' she heard a loud beeping noise; but it wasn't like the ones indicating your lack of hours, but rather a countdown until that time.
she looked down at her wrist, and saw her hours going down again.
"how much have you got?"
"not much."
"just tell me."
she sighed, and finally locked her gaze on him as she did the same.
"seventy two hours, that's all i've got."
there was a long pause, a huge waste of time in the world, before aspyn decided it was time for her to leave.
"i have to go," she said softly, smiling at him slyly. "keep it down, all right?"
"i will," he nodded, and she did too. then she turned and went for the stairs directly, trying her best to resist the urge of looking back. just when her right foot stepped down the first tile of the staircase, she heard luke call his name from behind. she turned around and raised her eyebrows at him as she saw his adam's apple bop up and down as he visibly gulped.
"do you like science?"
"uh, maybe?"
"it doesn't work that way! you have to say why."
"oh, okay. why?"
"because i got my ion you."
