chapter twenty-six

***so before I start, I'm writing another fanfic. for all my fellow Luke lovers, he's back ;) it's called daddy issues, and I'm planning to release the first chapter at the end of the month. btw, this ones done.***

Jades POV

I wake up to warmth coming from behind me. Jasper sleeps on the couch so I know it's not him. I roll over to see hazel eyes and blonde curls.

A smile forms on my face when I see him.

"Hi Ash." I say with my sleepy voice.

"Hi baby." he kisses my forehead softly and brushes my hair out of my face.

"how'd you get in?"

"you leave a key under the mat, silly." he smiles and I remember that I leave it there just for him.

"Oh duh. I forget that I leave it there for you." I smile back and roll over on my back and stretch out.

my shirt lifts up with my arms and I feel a warm hand glide across my bare skin.

"your tummy is so cute."

"and your hip bones."

"thank you." I slightly smile at him and blush.

He falls silent and stares down at the mattress.

"Ashton?"

No response.

"Are you okay?" I ask, putting my hand on his cheek to make him look at me.

"Yeah.. I'm fine. just zoned out." he clears his throat and rolls over to get out of bed.

"I'll go make you some breakfast." he says quietly.

He seems really off and I'm guessing it's his medication. He worries me so much nowadays. He doesn't seem the same, he's not the same Ashton I fell so hard for.

He's a stranger almost.

I get up and start walking out to the kitchen to find him sitting in the corner, crying his eyes out.

"Ashton!" I run up and fall to my knees next to him, taking him in my arms to soothe him.

"What's wrong? you need to tell me."

"I'm not okay Jade. I'm mentally falling apart and I'm scared."

"it's okay."

"no it's not, I don't want to burden you either with my state."

I let go of him and look him in the face.

"Are you..a-are you breaking up with me?" I choke up and feel tears brim my eyes.

He doesn't answer me he just falls silent and looks away.

"Are you serious? Ashton, I'm here for you no matter what. I will help you get through this."

"I can't bring you down, I'm not in the right state of mind and I don't want to hurt you."

"I-I I just don't want to make you feel the way I do by dealing with my issues."

"I can't make the same mistake twice by hurting you, and this is the easiest way."

I stay quite as each word stabs me in the chest a little harder.

"I'm sorry Jade.."

"Just go.." I whisper as I put my back against the wall and tears fall down my face.

"I can't fucking believe you'd do this to me." I slightly hiss at him with anger and sadness.

"I have no other choice Jade, you just have to understand. I love you, but I can't be with you anymore because of my mental state. It'll just hurt you in the long run." he says as tears still fall down his cheeks.

I sit there and absorb his words, he gets up, kisses my forehead and walks out of my life. just like that.

After that, I never heard from Ashton Fletcher Irwin again.

I guess princess don't always get their happy ending.
