18. Merge

Erik and I had eventually forced ourselves out of bed after he had assaulted me with kisses and left me with an array of expertly placed love bites. He had gotten me some clothes from my room before we headed back downstairs and I was surprised to see that it was already late evening and the sun was setting. The voice drifted from the living room and I knew that my dad and Grace were still here.

"Do you think she will agree?" I heard Grace whisper. "She's so head strong."

"She has to, or leave Erik and she won't do that. They have grown too close with in the week. It would probably kill her and Erik, seeing as he has already marked her." That was Sarah and her words almost made my heart ache. I glanced up at Erik and he seemed just as confused as I was. He urged me forward and into the room where the chatter instantly ceased. The two of us looked between the adults silently begging them for an explanation.

"Kassidy, Erik, sit down. We need talk," my dad ordered. I was in Erik's lap, on the couch within seconds. I almost laughed at my dad's glare and the stiff set of his shoulder as he stared at our intimate position. Even so, I wasn't about to move. My body was too content where it was and my wolf was purring with delight. Grace placed a light hand on his back and dad relaxed a bit.

"As you two have figured out, we have been discussing your situation," Grace started, looking about between us.

"Right, but discussing it without us," Erik answered shortly. I could sense his tension and waves of it practically rolled into me.

"Yes, but this is something that was beyond you two. Joining the packs would be a huge change for us as well as other packs all over the country," my dad argued. I interrupted him.

"Wait, so we can merge the packs? That is a liable option?" I couldn't contain my questions. I hadn't actually thought Erik and I would be able to stay together. I still don't know if we can.

"Well, we would be joining two already large packs together and making them even larger," my dad clarified. "Some packs may not be comfortable with that and think of it as a threat." My smile fell and I literally could feel my hope shatter into a million. Erik's hands tightened around my waist at the change in my demeanor. Grace and Sarah were already smiling and soon my father followed suit.

"But, it's a good thing that we have gotten approval from the pack courts," Sarah exclaimed. "As long as it's what the two of you want, we will be joining the packs." My smile broke the tense atmosphere and Erik placed a light kiss to my temple. The smile was clear on his lips as well.

"When? How?" He asked them. I was curious too. The three elders were all smiling at us. I guess they were pretty excited about the merge as well. My dad began to explain.

"In order for this to work the way we need it too, Kass has to turn eighteen and she has to be named alpha of Timber." I nodded, silently begging for him to continue. "She turns eighteen on Friday and her initiation will be on Saturday. She will remain Alpha until the two of you complete... the process. Technically, we will have to have a ceremony and everything to make it official but that is the idea." Again, he paused letting the words sink in. Specifically the part about the mating. "After that, Kass," he looked at me. "You will be the Luna of Broken Timber and Erik, the Alpha." I sucked in a breath. Our two packs together. Broken Hill and Timber. Broken Timber. It was almost too perfect and my wolf purred, knowing this is what we were destined for.

"Why are you rushing into this so quickly?" Erik questioned him and I turned to stare at Erik. What if he didn't want me anymore? He met my gaze and smiled softly before speaking to my father again. "It's not as if I don't want to be with her a soon as possible," he stated calmly, running a hand over my back. "But only a week ago, you were pretty adamant about her not taking the position for a while. Why now?" He narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing my father and his motivations.
