Erik was supposed to stay for another five days. He would leave this Friday, a week after the party. Until then, we would be graced with his presence. I'm not sure if I should be excited or saddened by this news.
I went through my next day like normal. Even after my crying session in the shower, I woke up before dawn and went for a run, followed by training. I made it my mission not to make any contact with my mate. I purposely ran training late and went for another run afterwards. My mind needed a distraction and my heart still couldn't handle another conversation with Erik. Despite my efforts, I couldn't stay away from the pack house forever.
It was getting dark. I finished the perimeter and started toward the pack house. My mind wandered to the person I saw standing by the tree yesterday. If it was Kurt, I have no idea what he would be doing here. His pack was further up north. Maybe near Pennsylvania. I wasn't completely sure, but he was an American Alpha and I knew that his pack had a history of being notoriously vicious. However, they were a smaller pack. I shook the thought out of my head. I am just being paranoid.
I continued to jog towards the house, letting my mind go blank. I couldn't handle too much thought right now. Too soon, I broke through the tree line and my feet were carrying me toward the house. Instead of going through the door, I walked up to the big maple tree and grabbed the trunk, ready to climb.
"Kass, don't even think about it," my dad ordered. He was glaring at me through the open window on the side of the house. "My office. NOW!"
What was his problem? I shook my head and trudged toward my dad's office. I had no idea what this could be about. It would probably be a two hour lecture on how I needed to stop being so allusive and come home at a decent hour. I entered the back door and saw Violet standing in the kitchen. She quickly ran out... That was odd.
I continued through the house to my dad's office. When my feet stopped at the edge of the threshold, I saw Erik. He was sitting on the couch with a spot beside him for me. My dad gave a look that said 'sit.' I did but still couldn't figure out what this was about. I heard the doorbell ring in the foyer but a short growl from my father stopped my attempt to go and answer the awaiting guest.
I sat down beside Erik, leaving a respectable distance between us, despite the fact that I was craving his touch. It was evident that he had no clue what this was about as well. His scent was intoxicating. It was honestly making it hard for me to focus. 'Geez, chill out Kass!' I scold myself internally. Then my Dad spoke.
"Do the two of you have anything you would like to tell me?" Erik acted as confused as I and we both answered no. Dad glared at us over his glasses. He knew. Damn, Violet. Then suddenly the door opened. It was Grace.
"Kass, someone is here to see you," she whispered. I quickly jumped up to see who it was. The tense atmosphere in the office was almost smothering. Unfortunately, Dad and Erik followed me out. Ugh. As I entered the foyer, standing on the welcome mat was Kurt.
"There's the girl who stole my spot!" He exclaims. Violet had come into the foyer as well, hearing the commotion.
"Violet, go upstairs. To your room," I order. I do not want her around him. She listened and I waited for her to get to the second flight of stairs before I spoke. "Kurt, you're trespassing," I spat.
"Now, now. You're too pretty to be getting upset. Or is that alpha wolf of yours too much to handle?" He was teasing me, even though I could butcher his tail if I wanted to. I heard Erik growl and step forward in a protective manner. "And she's found herself a mate!" He clapped his hands together. Grace seemed a bit confused but caught on quickly.
"Kurt, outside. NOW!" I growled and stepped toward him, asserting my dominance. He obliged and opened the door, strolling into the middle of the yard. Dad and Erik followed the two of us and Grace watched cautiously from the door. "Now, what are you doing here?" He smirked and cocked his brows.
