EPILOGUE

"Springtrap?" You repeat, gulping. Just the name felt weird, as if it were a forbidden substance. "Can you tell me who that is? Freddy, tell me what's going on."

When you turn to look at everyone else (excluding Mike), they look as if they've seen a ghost. They're frozen in place, eyes stretched wide. Even Gold seems shocked. Foxy is the first to wake up, his ears twitching. "Are you sure, Mangle? You could be wrong-"

"Haven't you been here longer than me?" Mangle snaps. "You and the rest should have had an inkling of a feeling! He's here and I can feel it!"

Everyone swapped their attention for Gold, who shook himself awake. In a croaky and distant voice, he replied, "No, she's right. I can feel his presence as well."

"This is bad." Freddy shakes his head. "I guess, now that you know about him, we may as well tell you as much as we can."

"Go ahead." You whisper, the basement seeming darker than before.

"Springtrap is evil, and I'm sure you know that by our initial reactions. He did some terrible things, but so did we. That's beside the point." Freddy added hurriedly before you could interrupt. "The point is, he's back and that means red alert for us all. Now, I've got a question for Marionette. Are you or are you not working with Springtrap?"

Marionette laughed, one that echoed throughout the basement and sent shivers through your bones. "As if I would ever ally myself with that traitor! Harboring the soul of the one I could never get - the one that enslaved all your souls and-"

"That's enough, Marionette." Freddy growled, sending a look your way. "(your name), you said that you heard whispers that tempted you down here. Is it possible that Springtrap is the culprit?"

You nod, feeling sick. Absolutely, completely sick. "Of course it is. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that Springtrap is behind this whole mess."

"Just a second." Gold stepped in. "Where is Bonnie? He's still not here. Doesn't that strike any of you as odd?"

"Maybe he was cleaning up somewhere." Foxy suggests.

Freddy let out a loud growl and Mangle hissed. When everyone turned to look at him, Freddy replied, "Springtrap has everything to do with Bonnie's disappearance, doesn't he? Think about it - Bonnie is his counterpart!"

"Counterpart." Mike tilts his head. "What does that mean?"

"It's our equals." Freddy explains quickly. "The counterparts will resemble each other in form or colour. Both or the multiple counterparts will share a type of connection, an ability to know where one another is and their intentions through telepathy. But some counterparts hate each other. And Springtrap's and Bonnie's is no exception."

You breathe out, slowly. "So Springtrap has kidnapped Bonnie? What will he do to him? And how do we get Bonnie back?"

"Through force." Freddy grimaces. "With Springtrap, you have to do as he wants. He doesn't understand and nor does he want to just talk it out."

"Let's go find him, then." Foxy flicks his ears with a growl.

Freddy faces Gold, his eyes narrowed to slits. "Gold, can you find Bonnie with the Tracker?"

Gold paused, as if in thought. And then he groaned. "I left the freaking thing in my hide- work place. You guys go look around, and I'll grab it."

"Alright." You nodded and let your gaze slip to Foxy. He blinks back at you, smiling slightly. "Let's go then. I'm scared and tired, and I want to go home."

What they don't know won't hurt them, he thought. But that was just a lie, like everything about the world. The darkened hallways and secret basements weren't even half of the lies that this pizzeria had to offer. The children didn't know what happened here at night, nor did they worry about it. For two, though, they could lose their lives. Which they might.

He had planned this all. For a very long time, he had planned. Spent ages in foreboding darkness, wondering whether he should disappear or get revenge. It was quite obviously the latter. And now, here he was, right under their noses. They didn't even bother to look for him. Just followed the flickering lights, their fear so ridiculously tempting.

Then he was standing above that golden bear's lair. The bear had a name, Gold, and the creature above knew well enough that the place beneath was not a work place. He laughed inside about how his old friends tried to keep secrets from the night guards, and how Gold had lead them to his lair so quickly. But he was also angry that Gold didn't know he was there. Oh, he had been there from the beginning.

And he shall be here forever.
