Heading towards the large gates of Konoha, I kept myself calm when I saw Naruto, Sakura and Kakashi waiting there. They all spotted me and Sakura gave me a weak smile, while Kakashi and Naruto seemed to be thinking about things.
"Morning Tsukiko....." Sakura greeted me, edging closer and put a hand on my shoulder. Glancing down at her, I nodded in greeting and smirked. I heard a sigh from behind me and turned to see Tsunade standing there along with Iruka, who was watching us with concerned eyes.
"Morning." I replied, my voice cold. Naruto and Sakura frowned at my tone, while Kakashi shook his head in sadness. "We ready to go or what?"
"Ok, we're off." Naruto announced, getting back his bubbly personality.
"Until we return, Master Tsunade." Sakura smiled. So Tsunade had trained Sakura huh? I wonder if she was any good now.... Just as we began to walk off, a man appeared in front of us with long and spiky white hair. Wasn't this that Ero-Sennin that taught Naruto?
"Oh, going on a mission, Naruto?" He grinned before walking up to Tsunade and telling her what we already knew. "Naruto, come here for a minute." He said, making his way back over to us before veering off with Naruto following at his heels. Tuning out their conversation, I noticed Naruto's face take on a determined yet angry look and I realised that he was talking about the Akatsuki.
"Kakashi-sensei! Sakura-chan! Tsukiko-chan! Let's get moving!" Naruto called, wandering off ahead of us. Sakura ran after him while I strolled leisurely behind but just in front of Kakashi. We got a few feet away before we leapt into the air and used the trees to travel. The whole time we moved, nobody said a word to me but I could feel eyes on me for brief periods at a time by both Sakura and Kakashi. Naruto was in his own world, seeming to be determined to get this Kamikaze, called Gaara, back quickly. The name rang a bell and I remembered that he was the red haired boy who put Lee in hospital. So he had gone from dangerous to Kamikaze, huh? Impressive I admit.
"Naruto, I know we're in a hurry but don't get so far ahead of us." Sakura informed him. "Temari-san!" She suddenly calls out, looking down at a blonde female on the path below. We land in front of her with me standing off to the side, and she turns round to see the three of them there. Gaara's sister, right? Temari's attire consisted of a short-sleeved, black kimono that reached down to her legs, with slits along the side and a more revealing neckline. She has a red sash tied around her waist, and wears fingerless black gloves and wears her forehead protector on her forehead. When she was informed that something bad had happened, she got this aggravated look on her face that almost showed that she had sensed that something bad had occurred, though I'm sure she wouldn't have guessed this.
"It'll take us two days to get to the Sand Village." Kakashi spoke up. It was decided that all five of us would go off to the Sand Village to rescue Gaara and so we hurried off back up into the trees. As we traveled through the trees, Naruto seemed to be becoming impatient once again and began to speed through the trees ahead of us which only caused Sakura to begin telling him off again.
"I can't take this!" He exclaimed angrily. "I know why they're after Gaara and me. Sakura-chan you know why too, right? Inside of me....." He began to explain before I cut him off.
"Inside of you is the Kyuubi, yes, we know." I continued, my voice bored.
"Gaara and I.... We both have monsters inside our bodies. That's what those guys are after. I..... hate it! They just see us as monsters. I can't stand the way they view us." He continued his speech and I admit, through the years he seemed to have grown. I was impressed actually. Maybe I could let him back in after all as he had matured enough to not be an annoyance at least. From my position, I could see tears in his eyes as he finished his speech. Feeling my heart squeeze at the sight of it, I pushed ahead and traveled beside him. He glanced over and when I gave him a shrug with a small smile, his eyes widened and he seemed genuinely pleased.
"So I know you three." Temari spoke up, and I could practically feel her eyes on me. "But who are you?"
"Hatake Tsukiko, my daughter." Kakashi answered for me, a hint of pain in his voice that made me wanna hug him.
"Daughter?! Wait, you're the one that disappeared the day of the Chunin Exams!" She gasped.
"Ah yes, well..... You can thank my mother for that." I chuckled darkly, irritated at just the thought of the bitch who gave birth to me. All eyes flew to me at that statement and they all looked shocked while Kakashi and Naruto looked angry.
"What did she do?" Kakashi demanded.
"Oh.... You know...... Sold me for money, it's all good." I replied bitterly. "I was a slave for the past three years along with Gareth, Talia and many others."
"How did you get free of them?" Sakura asked curiously and worriedly. My expression became one of a sadistic killers, almost like my mother's.
"Killed them." I smirked, shrugging my shoulders as if it was no big deal. "They deserved it and you see..... I came to enjoy killing due to them, so I thought I'd make them pay for ruining me. Besides, it's not like I was missed or heard of any team being sent out for me, so I sat back for three years and allowed them to do as they pleased while I grew stronger." Temari seemed shocked while the rest looked horrified at my confession. Sakura, Naruto and Kakashi's eyes all held pain in them upon my words before suddenly Naruto dove towards me and held me against a tree.
"Naruto, stop!" Sakura exclaimed.
"Naruto. What are you doing?" Kakashi asked in a strong voice. Naruto and I stared into each other's eyes and neither one of us budged or blinked. He seemed to be going over something in his head before he pulled me forwards and wrapped me up in a tight hug.
"We missed you a lot you know...... A lot of us begged Tsunade to let us go find you. We had Sasuke to worry about as well so she told us to focus on him. Orochimaru was the biggest threat. I'm your best friend, so how can you doubt that I didn't even try to look for you?" He whispered in my ear, his chin resting on my shoulder while my arms hung loosely at my sides.
"We don't have time for this Naru......." I sighed softly, reaching up to ruffle his hair. "Deep down I knew you guys were at least trying to look for me..... but it was tough keeping up hope after a while and with the constant abuse from them..... I gave up." Feeling arms around us both, I looked to my side to see Sakura smiling softly at me. Kakashi stood to the other side and was watching us with a closed eyed smile while he put a hand on my head and ruffled my own hair.
"You look more like me with that hair." He commented, scratching the back of his neck with his free hand.
"As nice as this is, can we please go?" Temari called to us from her position on the tree. When she met my eyes, she gave me a smile and I nodded in return. "Let's go then!" With that, the three let go of me and we hurried towards the Hidden Village of the Sand. After confession to Naruto, I felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders....... of course that didn't mean that I was back to who I was. The side of me that loved to kill was still very evident within me and I could feel the urge to kill coursing through my veins. Guess there was a monster inside of me as well, Gaara, Naruto and I had that in common.....We traveled hard night and day to try to reach The Hidden Village of the Sand quicker. Sakura was taking soldier pills which were to be used in an emergency, but she paid no attention to Kakashi's warning and I found myself getting amused.
"Naruto, you've met him before haven't you?" Sakura asked. "Uchiha Itachi." Huh? When did those guys meet?! I knew him due to the three prats working for the Akatsuki, it was also how I knew of their plans for the Jinchuriki's. "And he's after you. It's not like I did nothing but train for three years. I had full access to Master Tsunade's library and I used it as much as I could. And now I finally have a link to something I've wanted to know more about." Ah, so she's realised that Sasuke wants to kill his own brother, very nicely done. "He's a member of Akatsuki. That's why he's gone to Orochimaru to become stronger. But Orochimaru plans to take over Sasuke's body. We only have half a year left. Orochimaru was originally a member of Akatsuki. What I'm trying to say is, the closer we get to Akatsuki, the closer we get to finding information on Orochimaru. And the closer we get them, the closer we get to Sasuke!" She stated determinedly. Somebody's been doing her research it seems...... Looks like she had become both stronger and more useful than she had been before when she'd only call out people's names from the side lines. We stopped when night came for a while so people could rest and we only had a day left to reach the Village. Naruto was still as impatient as ever, even Gaara's own sister didn't seem to act like this, though I could see worry deep in the depths of her eyes. She was easy to read, they all were. When we stopped, Kakashi pulled me in for a hug and whispered an apology into my ear as well as the words 'I love you'. It made me falter in my usual uncaring personality and instead I found myself hugging him back and a tear falling down my cheek. Pulling back, I allowed everyone to sort themselves out and jumped up into a tree, staring out at the scenery in the distance. Someone landed next to me and I could easily tell it was Naruto from the feeling that his chakra gave off.
"You know we'll save him right? After all, you seemed pretty determined to and I know what you're like once you set your mind to something." I chuckled, smirking at him. He smiled at me and leant against the tree, his eyes set on me. It made me feel quite uncomfortable.
"Yeah, well he's like me and my friend. I've gotta rescue him." He stated confidently before his voice went quieter as he continued. "Just like how I tried with you......" Sighing, I turned and flopped back against him so my back was against his chest. He let out a groan as I fell against him but wrapped his arms around me in a hug. Here I was acting soft again.......
"Forget it." I chuckled. "It's no good holding onto the past even I can see that...... Unfortunately Sasuke does not. We'll rescue this Gaara boy and then return home safe."
"Thank you...." He murmured.
"Hmm? What for?" I questioned him, confused as to why he was thanking me.
"For still being my friend and not giving up on me or being scared of what's inside of me." He leant his forehead against my shoulder and I felt him relax slightly. Smiling up at the night sky, I felt peace taking over.
"We're both dangerous on the inside Naruto, but if something happens, I'll make sure to stop you as long as you stop me. Agreed?" I felt his head move against my shoulder, indicating that he had nodded and agreed to my words. Glancing down to the ground, I saw the other three staring up at us. Sakura had a smile on her face once she saw my soft expression, Kakashi looked happy to see us all getting along, and Temari seemed happy yet still worried about how things were. We'd rescue her brother, I just knew it.....
