Kouki's P.O.V
Today was father's day and I knew that we were going to granddad Kakashi's later so my training needed to go well. Throughout the month, Aimaru and I had been trying to learn new moves to impress my dad on father's day, only problem was...... we kept failing and coming home covered in grazes and mud. Mum was becoming concerned along with dad but I couldn't tell them what I was trying to do. Boruto had told me that he was going to visit his dad in the office with his little sister Himawari and their mum, Hinata, for father's day. After mum had forced Naruto out of the office a few weeks ago and taken up position as his helper in the office, the bond between Naruto and Boruto had improved and they spent more time together. Their relationship reminded me of my own with my father, Kiba. Mum always bragged to dad about how I was a 'mummy's boy' and therefore loved her more which only cause my dad to sulk for a few minutes before laughing and dragging her up the stairs. Cringing, I shook the thoughts of what they did together upstairs out of my head and concentrated on trying to master one of my mum's moves. She was strong with a katana and as it wasn't that common for a shinobi to use a katana in battle, I decided to try and become as skilled as her with one of my own. She had brought me one for Christmas, going against my dad's argument for me not to have one, and because he seemed so against me havin a katana, I had decided to show him I was strong and skilled enough to be able to master it and become as excellent as my mum.
Holding the katana up, poised to strike, I concentrated and made a clone to spar against. My clone used a kunai to fight while I had my katana. Both of us studied the other then went on the attack. Aimaru was watching from his position on the floor in the shade of a tree, warm eyes watching in anticipation. Our weapons clashed together and we both went on the attack before switching to defense, lunging and parrying. Watching my mother spar with her own clone had been fascinating and I'd learnt moves by observing her own. Every step she took, defense position she took up, her footwork and how calm she kept herself. I knew that my dad loved watching her with the katana and I wanted to impress him like she did. A rustling sound came from the side, catching my attention and I took my attention off of my clone who brought his kunai up against the katana. The katana was knocked from my hand but it spun in the air and scratched my cheek along with my arm as I brought it up to protect myself. My clone disappeared and Aimaru whined in concern from the side.
"I'm fine, Aimaru." I answered his concern with a smile, looking down at my arm and seeing the blood. Lifting up a hand, I touched my cheek and brought it away to see the blood on my fingers. Sighing, I inwardly cringed as I knew how mum was going to get when she saw me. Aimaru trotted over and nudged my leg with his head, knowing we needed to head home and get cleaned up. Dirt covered the both of us from learning fang-over-fang and more techniques that the Inuzuka Clan had all mastered like my dad. "Come on, let's go home." I frowned, walking away from one of the training grounds and heading home.Once home, I didn't even have time to open the door when it was wrenched open to reveal a concerned Inuzuka Clan member. My dad stood there staring at me with worry in his eyes and protectiveness evident within them. His eyes darted over my body to see the wounds and then they went to Aimaru to see him covered in mud and leaves.
"What have you been doing, Kouki?" He demanded. Looking down, I let out a sigh and ran a hand through my hair.
"Training." I shrugged, going to walk past him. He let me do so and stepped aside with Akamaru by his side, clearly alert. That was when I realised he had smelt the blood off of me and thought I'd been attacked. "It's fine, I just hurt myself during training. That's all." He saw the katana and narrowed his eyes but said nothing which was a surprise as normally he would go into a lecture about how dangerous the katana was to use at my age but then I'd remind him that mum used it at my age and he'd fall silent, meaning I'd won the argument.
"You can tell your mum that then, you know what she's like." He chuckled, his concern replaced by amusement at the thought of my over protective mum's reaction. Smiling, I nodded and rushed off upstairs with Aimaru at my heels. We went to the bathroom and I began to clean the dirt off of me while Aimaru leapt into the tub where I ran some water and began to clean him.
"Kouki!" Mum's voice exclaimed from outside the bathroom. Walking over to open the door, as soon as her gold eyes fell on my wounds from the katana, she knelt down in front of me and pulled me into her arms. "Have you been training with the katana again sweetie? I told you not to unless I was there." Her voice was warm and full of concern as she hugged me tight to her chest. Wrapping my arms around her, I rest my head against her shoulder and let myself enjoy the love I felt from my mum's embrace. She was right. I really was a mummy's boy. She pulled back and her eyes fell to my cheek. "Let's get you patched up then shall we?" She sighed softly, walking over to the cupboard in the bathroom and pulling up a first aid kit. Sitting me on the edge of the bath, she chuckled as Aimaru yapped happily and jumped about trying to burst bubbles with his teeth. "You need to be more careful. How did this happen?"
"I got distracted, no biggie." I shrugged nonchalantly as she cleaned both of my cuts and put a plaster on the one of my cheek while wrapping the bigger one on my arm with a bandage. "It was an accident, but I'm getting better mum. I need to master this." She raised an eyebrow at my determined voice and gave me a curious but suspicious look.
"You need to master it? Now why would that be?" She smirked, her eyes lighting up in realisation. Great...... She'd figured it out.....
"It's father's day and dad loves watching you train with your katana. I want to show him I'm just as capable with mine and make him proud." I explained, not meeting her eyes out of embarrassment.
"Oh sweetie...." She sighed, kissing my forehead. I looked up to see warmth in her eyes and a smile on her lips. "He is proud of you. You're a young Genin and he loves you. You're skilled and he can see that so never doubt that he's proud of you."
"But I really want to show him I can do it." I frowned, knowing she was right but still wanting to show him how capable I was at defending myself and as a shinobi. She looked thoughtful for a few minutes before grinning.
"Alright. I'll help you. We'll go to your granddad's later and I'll help you out there while your dad stays here. Get yourself cleaned up and we'll go." She chuckled, standing up and leaving me with a happy Aimaru still popping bubbles. A smile lit up my face as happiness coursed through me. She was going to help me! Yes!After Aimaru and I had scrubbed all of the dirt off of our bodies and we were ready, mum and I left to go see granddad Kakashi. We turned up at his house and entered with mum telling him what I was planning to impress dad. Kakashi smiled beneath his mask, which he still wore after all these years, and told me it was a great idea. After mum handed him his present, she pulled me out to the back garden and unsheathed her katana.
"Alright, let's begin." She smirked. Kakashi watched me worriedly as I pulled out my own katana and held it up, ready for an attack. Mum waited patiently to strike and instead watched me carefully, seeing if I was going to go first. She watched my every move and reacted instantly, forcing me back then knocking the katana from my hand. She did this several times before I finally grew used to the movements she was using. Swinging my katana down, she brought hers up to parry the attack but I quickly changed my moves to twist and bring it around to his side. She smirked but once again blocked my attack. "Good. Keep it up." She encouraged, pride in her voice which made me even more determined to get better. We spent the next few hours practicing, time and time again I'd have my katana knocked out of my hand but began to get used to it and came up with moves of my own to use to counter her attacks. The smiles on my mum's face encouraged me to do so again and our matches began to get longer as time went on. She admitted that I was improving and even granddad Kakashi seemed impressed with the way I was picking up on it. However, what mattered was my dad's reaction when he saw me. We came to a stop as I stood panting, hands on my knees and eyes wide as I stared at my mum who barely looked phased by the workout.
"You're doing good son." Kakashi smiled, ruffling my hair affectionately. "Kiba is bound to be impressed with you."
"You really think so?" I asked with a grin, hope filling me as I thought of my dad being impressed at my skills with the katana. Would he finally stop giving me the lectures about how dangerous they are and encourage me instead? Or would nothing change after this?
"Yeah, he's right." Mum spoke up with a chuckle, an arm coming round my shoulders as she pulled me to her side. "You're father will be so impressed that he'll be speechless." She winked causing granddad and I to laugh. I really hoped so.After dinner we said goodbye to granddad Kakashi and went back home. The walk there was quiet as I felt nerves course through me. Mum noticed by didn't say anything and instead kept me pulled to her side, giving me her silent support and comfort. It seemed to work as I began to feel more confident about showing him how well I could fight with the katana. We entered into our home and mum called out to dad who came downstairs, curious as to why he was being called for. We went outside and I turned to face him.
"Happy father's day, dad. I want to show you that I'm just as capable as mum with the katana." I stated. He went to say something but a nudge from mum shut him up so I created a clone and we both got into our fighting positions. Taking a deep breath, I allowed myself to concentrate solely on my opponent and not my parents watching. My clone attacked first and brought down the kunai as he descended from a jump, aiming for my chest. Bringing the katana up, I blocked the attack and went for an attack instantly, not allowing my clone time to recover from the failed attack. He jumped back but I followed and continued to attack, getting quicker in my movements as I did so. He began to have trouble blocking and continued to move about to avoid the lunges and attacks with me in his pursuit. He flipped over me and went to stab from behind, but I spun and swung the katana round to his neck. I held it against his neck and the clone grinned before disappearing. I'd won. Turning round to look at my mum and dad. I saw mum grinning at my win and she sent me a wink while I glanced at my dad's stoic expression. He approached me and I began to get nervous with his lack of a reaction, but then he came to a stop in front of me and put a hand on my shoulder. He then grinned, crouched down and pulled me to his body in a hug.
"You did well, Kouki. You definitely are doing well with the katana like your mother. I'm proud of you son." A grin lit up my face and I threw my arms around his neck, returning the hug. He stood up with me in his arms and ruffled my hair while walking over to mum who joined in the hug. Akamaru and Aimaru yapped happily at our sides and I felt myself feeling loved and happy.
"See? Told you he gets his skills from me." Mum smirked, pulling out of the hug. Dad froze and set me down, his eyes darkening. Seeing this as the tell tale signs of them about to go upstairs together, I let out a sigh but smiled in amusement. My parents never changed and I would never want anyone else. My attempt at impressing my dad on father's day was a success. Awesome!
