-20-

Butterfly leaned her head back against the headboard. The preparations for her marriage were taking a toll. In fact, the faking of getting the wedding ready was making her tired. Lance actually thought she was going to marry him. Butterfly laughed at thought of standing Lance up at the altar as he had done to her.

Butterfly ran a hand through her hair and sighed out of frustration. She could still picture Isaiah's reaction to the break-up in her mind. Isaiah didn't outwardly show it, but she knew it was there. She saw his hands clench when she told him.

Butterfly was so tired of her Father's schemes. She didn't understand why he wanted her to marry Lance so badly. In her eyes, Isaiah was the better choice. It's always about money with him. She wondered if Charles would actually start liking Isaiah if he had more money than Lance.

Butterfly rolled onto her stomach and stretched. She could feel something vibrating underneath her. She realized it was her phone and looked at the screen and pushed talk. It was her mother calling.

  "Is everything okay?" Butterfly asked.

"I'm not sure." Butterfly could hear Dottie's uneasiness on the ender end. "Isaiah's talking to your Dad."

Butterfly sat up in bed. "Can you hear what they're saying?"

"Yeah, and it's not looking too good."

"I'll be over there in twenty minutes." Butterfly hung up the phone. She grabbed her keys and her purse. Butterfly locked up her apartment, got in her car, and headed towards her destination.

Butterfly and Dottie listened in on Charles and Isaiah's conversation. Butterfly had the room bugged so that she could spy on him. She was surprised he hadn't found it yet. Butterfly continued to listen on until she heard the signing of a contract being brought up. She grounded her teeth together and swore under her breath.

"Mama, I think it's time." Butterfly stood up and started walking towards Charles's office.

Dottie followed right behind her. She kept wringing her hands together and taking in deep breaths. "Are you sure, Butterfly?"

Butterfly nodded and said, "This has to be done."

Both Butterfly and Dottie stopped in front of the wooden door. Butterfly gave Dottie a reassuring smile to ease her worried look. Butterfly inhaled deeply before swinging the doors to his office open. She wasn't quiet about it either. A grand entrance was what she wanted.

"Daddy, I see you're working hard as usual." Butterfly sat down in a leather chair right beside Isaiah. Isaiah gave her a quizzical look, but she just smiled back at him.

"Shouldn't you be preparing for the wedding?" Charles asked.

Butterfly smirked at his statement. "The wedding is not going to happen." She switched her gaze to Isaiah's and winked at him, while Isaiah's eyes widened out of confusion.

Charles glared at her. "This wedding is happening whether you like it, or not."

"Why don't you want to see me happy?" This was a question that had been suffocating her for the longest time. She was glad she was finally getting it off her chest.

"You may not be all smiles now, but you will be in the future."

Butterfly laughed sarcastically and replied, "I'll never be happy with you around."

"Is that a threat?" Charles hadn't expected that to come from her. Butterfly noticed the quick flicker of surprise in his eyes that went away just as fast.
