Butterfly paced back and forth in her living room. Every few seconds, she would peek out of the window that showed the parking spaces where her neighbors parked. She was expecting Ricky's car to show up right outside her apartment building.
Butterfly bit her lip as she saw Ricky step out of his car. She checked her watch, and it was midnight. She watched as he walked up the steps. Butterfly quickly sat back down on the tangerine-colored couch and pretended to watch T.V.
Butterfly heard the beating against her door. She sighed and trudged towards the door. She opened it up and gestured for Ricky to come in. He immediately sat down and rested both arms against the back of the loveseat.
Ricky smiled at her and patted the spot next to him. The last thing she wanted to do was sit next to him. But if she didn't, she knew he would probably hit her again. She stiffly took the spot next to him and looked everywhere else but in his penetrating eyes. She just wanted to get this transaction over with.
"Did you get my money?" Ricky asked, with seriousness in his tone.
Out of fear of letting Ricky hear the tremble in her voice, Butterfly just nodded. She didn't want to let him know how scared she really was. The money she got from Charles was in a suitcase by the wooden coffee table.
Butterfly placed the suitcase on the table and said, "Count it if you want to."
Ricky rubbed his hands together and popped the latches open. He picked up a stack and sniffed it like it was cocaine. Ricky held up a hundred dollar bill up to the light and flipped it back and forth. He nodded in satisfaction when he came to the conclusion that the money was real.
"Can you fix me a drink, while I count?" Ricky glanced up at her a moment to see the look of distrust in her eyes. "The faster you fix me something to drink, the faster I'm out of your hair."
Butterfly narrowed her eyes at him. "I don't have any alcohol."
"Of course you don't." Ricky chuckled and said, "Anything you have is fine."
Butterfly sucked her teeth and rose from her seat. She went into her kitchen and poured him up a tall glass of milk. She walked back into the living room and placed the milk on the table.
Ricky frowned and said, "I'm lactose intolerant." He continued to stare at the glass like it was a death sentence for him.
Butterfly clenched her teeth. "You've got to be kidding me."
Ricky stood up and walked up to her. Ricky looked down at her trembling lips and up into her sparkling almond eyes. Butterfly backed a few inches away from him, bumping into the wall. Ricky closed the space in-between them.
"What are you doing?" Butterfly asked, breathlessly. Her stomach recoiled at him being so close to her.
"Can you bring me something else to drink?" Ricky could see her start to squirm from his gaze.
"I think it's best if you just take the money and go." Butterfly wanted this nightmare to be over and done with.
Ricky smiled when he heard her gasp, from his hand touching the inside of her thigh. Butterfly eyes widened like saucers when his tongue flicked over her bottom lip. Butterfly pushed his chest, but it didn't even phase him.
Butterfly slapped him and said, "Don't ever touch me like that again."
Ricky snarled at her and brought his fist up to her nose. Butterfly slid down the wall and held her nose, as the blood gushed out. The tears started to form from the pain of her wound. Butterfly wrapped one arm around her waist to control her shaking body.
