Epilogue
Two Years Later
Butterfly winced at the cold jelly being spread across her round belly. She clenched her fingers around Isaiah's hand. Butterfly looked up at him and saw him giving her a reassuring smile. She exhaled and grinned back up at him. Isaiah was rubbing her hand, and it was making her feel a little more relaxed.
"Let's see here," Gina, the ultrasonographer said. She continued to rub the transducer across her stomach. "Do you hear that fast thumping sound? That's the baby's heart beating."
Butterfly heard the fast heartbeat in the small room that had pictures of women's genitalia and body parts. Butterfly smiled at hearing her child's heartbeat at a fast rhythmic pace. A tear trickled down her cheek when she looked up at Isaiah. She saw him wipe his eyes twice, and she chuckled to herself.
"Would you like to know the gender of the baby?" Gina asked, with excitement in her hazel eyes.
Butterfly nodded. "I would love to know."
Gina rubbed some more until she found on the monitor what she was looking for. She smiled at them when she realized the sex of the baby. "It's a girl."
"A girl," Butterfly and Isaiah said, simultaneously.
"I told you it would be a girl," Isaiah said. "You owe me a hundred dollars when we get home."
Butterfly rolled her eyes at him. They had been talking about the gender of the baby one night in bed. The discussion got heated to the point where they had placed bets on the gender of the baby. Butterfly's intuition kept telling her it was a boy and Isaiah was adamant about it being a girl.
Gina laughed and said, "The baby is healthy. I see no abnormalities at this time."
"Thank you so much," Butterfly said. She exhaled slowly. News that her baby was, okay made the butterflies in her stomach come to a screeching halt.
"No problem. I'll see you at your next appointment in a couple of weeks." Gina rose from her seat and left the happy couple in the room.
Isaiah helped Butterfly rise to her feet. She wobbled a bit and he held onto her to steady her. Butterfly gave him a thankful smile and waddled to the door with the help of Isaiah's strong arm wrapped around her waist.
They walked to the front of the building to pay for their appointment and schedule for another one in the following weeks. When they paid and got everything situated, they walked out of the building hand in hand.
"Can you believe we're having another girl?" Butterfly asked. She was hoping for a boy this time.
Isaiah smiled faintly. "It looks like I'm going to have to buy me a shotgun."

"Mommy! Daddy!
Butterfly and Isaiah smiled, at the little girl with wild curls running towards them. She jumped into Isaiah's arms first. She's such a Daddy's little girl.
Butterfly gave the girl a fake pout. "No love for Mommy, Kayla?"
Kayla's almond eyes turned to look at Butterfly. She stretched her arms to Butterfly for a hug. Butterfly scooped her up in her arms and smiled down at her. Kayla threw her tiny arms around Butterfly and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
"I love you too, Mommy."
"That's better." Butterfly gave her a kiss on her forehead, before placing her back down on the tiled floor. "Where's your Grandma?"
"She's in there making cookies." Kayla pointed her index finger towards the kitchen. "I was helping her." She gave Isaiah and Butterfly a toothy grin.
Isaiah smiled and said, "Do you want to help Daddy make dinner?"
