chapter 3

Niall's P.O.V

I had been watching this girl since she came to the beach, she's cute, I guess. I saw her friends try to force her to go into the water, but she looked like she had no interest in that idea.

It's strange at how uncomfortable she looks, so I keep an eye out. I don't really mind watching her anyway.. I stare at her while she pulls her hair up into a bun and shake her head.

She eventually gave in and goes into the water slowly. I have the best view here. I'm at the top of the lifeguard chair, hoping everything is under control.

I watch her go into the water nervously. Then I have to grab my binoculars to get a closer look on some douche bag trying to flirt with her, but I have no clue who he is. I look around the beach to make sure that everyone here is doing fine.

It could be her brother for all I know.. or her boyfriend. I hope she doesn't have a boyfriend, it'd be great if she didn't. My shift ends soon, so by the time I get off of work, she'll be leaving with her friends.

She looks uncomfortable while the man talks and touches her around for a while, then he swims away. What the hell is going? I watch her head sway slowly, then her body disappears downwards. I thought she was just swimming underwater for a while, but she's not coming back up.

I quickly climb down from my seat and felt the hot sand under my feet.

I finally followed the section where the bubbles were and grabbed her, but she's falling over everywhere because she passed out.

I put her on the sand, giving her mouth to mouth and CPR. The other lifeguards are telling people to go back to what they were doing, they're all hovering over her. I'm hoping she'd become conscious again. Her friends quickly swam out of the water to meet her on the sand.

"I'm Lana and this is Macie. We're her housemates." A girl with long wavy brown hair and big brown eyes to match explains.

"What happened?" I'm guessing she was Macie.

"It's all my fault I shouldn't have made her go into the water, she doesn't like the water."

"It's not your fault." Macie assured the other girl that she was with.

I paused a quick second from giving CPR and asked why was she even scared of water in the first place.

"Her dad drowned." I heard one of them say. "And her mother passed away..airplane crash." They say uncomfortably, looking almost sad.

"Oh.." I resume giving her mouth to mouth until she chokes and begins to cough.
