I mentioned this in the last chapter, and thank you to @Tundra_Amethyst for suggesting this.
In most stories, the main character is white. Like, being black isn't an option when you write a story?
And if the girl is of another race, it's apparently illegal to straight up say it. Instead, they describe their skin tone with Starbucks.
"I scrubbed my body wash all over my chocolate mocha colored skin."
"I applied foundation all over my golden caramel complexion."
Like are you a tall mocha frappachino with extra whip and four pumps of vanilla?
Or are you black.
