I could barely sit still as I turned up the volume of the music in my car. I prayed that my parents were far behind me now as I went just a little over the speed limit to help get me there just a little quicker.

Five years ago I had left for the big city, not by choice of course but by force because my father had gotten a really good job offer that had been absolute crap in the end and we had moved for nothing. Don't you just love when you move for no absolute reason and lose all your friends?

I had left my best friend since birth behind and the first two years we were fine, skyping and messaging all the time but then it got less frequent and soon all connection just ceased. I'd tried calling her on skype and I tried messaging her on Facebook but she never replied back to me and her Facebook went dormant not to mention neither of us had mutual friends so I was stuck in the silent treatment.

But now I was coming back home, back to the town I'd grown up in and made memories in and I was beyond ecstatic to see her face when I pulled up to her front door.

It was about an hour later that I pulled into her houses driveway where a shiny black jeep was parked. I doubted it could be my best friend Danielle's so it had to be her alcoholic, gambling, stupid parents but how would they ever be sober enough to buy one?

I ran up to the front door and knocked expectantly, waiting for Danielle's delighted face to open the door and hug me and I would confess my love to her right there and ask to be her boyfrie- "yes?" A voice said opening the door but it wasn't Danielle's voice. This voice was deeper and more rough sounding.

A boy stood there, his face blank and tired looking with a singular raised eyebrow. "Umm are you Danielle's boyfriend?" I asked growing more and more depressed at the thought. "Danielle? I don't know any Danielle's... Do you have the right house?" He asked looking at my crestfallen face with a little bit of sympathy.

"No.. I'm sure it's this one... Is it your house?" I asked staring at my shoes now in disappointment. "Yeah, bought it maybe two or three years ago, somewhere in that time period." Was his reply as he leaned against the door. "Were you looking for the previous owner? Because I'm pretty sure they moved out of state..." He said trailing off as he saw my heartbroken expression.

I'd waited forever, dreaming of this moment- the moment where I got to see her again, her long red hair flying past as she wrapped her arms around me and kissed me and I- "Dude, are you okay. You look a little dazed." He said motioning for me to come in but I shook my head. "No, I should be going. Thanks anyways." I said beginning to walk back towards my car.

She was gone.

She hadn't even told me where, or why. She just...

Left.

I drove to the address my mom had given me before the long car trip had started, she knew I would come to Danielle's first and probably stay a while so she had written in on a sticky note. I followed it till I got to old gray looking house that matched my mood perfectly.

The door was a vintage brown color while the paint job it's self was a dusty gray color, full of disappointment and sadness like A small child told that Christmas was canceled. Nothing could make my mood worse though, everything was already as dismal as could be.

My parents Honda was in the driveway along with one of the moving vans that going by my mood probably only had my parents things and I'd end up sleeping on a air mattress. It's better than motel room beds... I thought to myself as I got out of my car and walked in the slightly open front door. "Hello?" I called as my mom answered me saying they were upstairs.
