I fixed the tie around my neck as I stood in front of the mirror. All I could hear were the random chourds that were lazily being strummed by ray who was currently sitting on my bed. I looked myself up and down and just sighed. whatever I don't really care anyway, I thought to myself as I turned away from the mirror.

"Lookin good my friend." Ray said in a fake Mexican accent. I laugh "it's a god damn suit ray, as if anyone can look good in one of these." My thoughts flashed to Gerard. Well except for maybe him. "I don't wanna go, I just want to stay here and hang out and we can play guitar and eat chips or something." I said as I flopped down on my bed. "Well we could, but both out parents are forcing us to go. But think about it, it'll be more fun considering we both won't be alone, we'll have eachother." He smiled as he nudged my side. "True. Let's pull pranks on the teachers!" I said excitedly. Ray just gave a little laugh.

See, every once in a while, my school will have an 'awards night' where all the kids are require to go and accept any crappy awards for drama class and stuff. I rarely ever get awards, which disappoints my mother immensely. But I do this on purpose, why would I work really hard at my school work just so at the end of it I can walk up on stage I front of tons of kids and their parents so I can get a crappy piece of paper? I hate being the centre of attention. Although I don't get any awards, mother still makes me go so I can watch everyone else get theirs. I guess she is trying to guilt me into working harder. I don't give a fuck about a piece of paper that says I can do something well, I know what things I can do well and what things I can't, a piece of paper doesn't need to tell me or prove anything.

At least this time I don't have to stand their awkwardly with my mother. I have ray with me this time so we can sneak off. Luckily I managed to convince mom that I don't need her coming tonight, I told her I'll be hanging with ray and his parents when in actual fact rays parents aren't going either.

"Boys! It's almost time to go! I'll meet you at the car." My mom called to us. Ray removed the guitar strap from over him and placed his guitar down on the bed, standing up he walked over to me I front if the mirror. I saw his reflection in the mirror beside mine, he was beaming at himself as he straightened his bow tie. He was like a cute child. He dusted off the suit jacket. "Okay let's go." He said as he extended his arm out for me to link arms with him in a sarcastic manor. I giggled as I linked arms with him and we waltzed out of my bedroom a if we were going to prom.

When we made it outside my house I saw mom leaning against the car waiting. When she looked up to see us she smiled warmly "don't you boys both look handsome." She said in that overly sweet dramatic mother voice. I rolled my eyes as I opened the door to the car, but ray, well he stood there and said in a posh voice "well thank you very much, I must say you look ravishing tonight too mrs.iero" Then he climbed in the back with me.

"What was that all about?" I questioned with an uncomfortable expression. He just shrugged as he clicked his seatbelt. "Your mom seems nice." He said simply in reply. I shook off the conversation as mom started the car.

Ray and my mom absorbed themselves in polite conversation. mom asked ray all about the classes he has been taking and what his hobbies are, which ray would reply to eagerly whilst I sat slumped in the corner of the car sulking.

We eventually got to the gates of hell (school) and mom parked the car so we could get out. "Alright boys, have a fun night. I'll pick you up later. Love you frank." She said as we got out. "Goodnight mrs.iero, you have a good night too okay? Thanks for the lift." Ray said as he closed the door. "Aw such a sweet young lad." My mom said to ray before she finally drove off.

I started walking through the dark car park but stopped when I realised ray wasn't following me. I turned around to see him still standing there waving as my mom drove off. I stomped back over to him and grabbed his arm. "Okay she's gone you can stop acting like a nice polite guy now. Hah, if I didn't know better I'd say you had a crush on my mom." I said through nervous laughter. Ray didn't say anything, he just continued walking beside me. I looked him, maybe he didn't hear me, But through the lack of light in the schools car park I could see a smile on his face. I stopped abruptly. "Wait....noooo. nononono." I panicked as I stood in front of ray and grabbed his shoulders, desperately searching his face for some glimpse that would tell me he was just joking around. "Sorry dude. It's just, your mom is pretty." He shrugged. That was the crappiest apology I've ever heard. "You're joking. You've gotta be joking. That's my, my mom! Ew yuck no ray. How, how could you even? What! No." I said denying everything as I seeked to find an untruth in his words. "I don't know, I just got a thing for older chicks."
