PROLOUGE

Panem is a tough place to live.

Even after the Revolution that took place almost 50 years ago, Panem is still a tough place to live for those under privledged, like me.

My name is June Brinley, I am 17 years old and  I live in District 12.

Lots of people say I look simular to Katniss Everdeen, our hero and savior from the Capitol all those years ago. I personally think, I look nothing like Katniss.

I have bright, almost white, blonde hair and deep brown eyes the color of chestnuts with tiny flecks of sprakling green.

They say I'm the blonde Katniss, but I don't think so.

I have a younger brother and a younger sister, who look exactly alike since after all they are twins and, they look nothing like me.

They both have dark brown hair and bright blue eyes. Just like my mom.

We have been living here since I was three. Before we lived in District 1 until my mom got offered to sew clothes for the miners up here, a much better paying job than the her old job back in 1.

Tonight would be the night that our new President would appear on TV. My family of 4 anxiously gathered around the television and flicked to Channel 4 to see who our new President would be.

We all sat around, our eyes glued to the screen awaiting the new leader's arrival..

Finally after minutes of just staring at the empty stage, the curtains finally parted and out walked Heather Brownsman.

The last person on our list of people we wanted to be president.

As a distant relative of the evil President Snow she was only known for her bad decisons.

My whole family stared at the screen in awe as we awaited her speech.

She approached the microphone and tapped it gently as if preparing everyone for a big announcment.

"Hello Panem. I am Heather Brownsman and I am your new president." She paused as if waiting for an applause, which never came. "I have a very special announcement." She said again, clearing her throat. "I have decided over months and pondering that The Annual Hunger Games will be brought back, as a reminder of the rebellion, and will be played annually just as before."

My whole world stopped.

It seemed as if no one breathed.

As if no one was there.

I just stared at the screen again in pure awe.
