Chapter 14

It was the day after Gardenia and I went to the movies, and I wasn't really sure where we stood. She let me pay for both of our tickets, but then she insisted on buying our drinks and popcorn, so it kind of evened out. I wanted to pull the classic move and put my arm around her shoulders, but I didn't think she'd like that, so I held myself back. We just silently watched the movie, and I casually looked at her multiple times during it. It was incredible when I witnessed her laughing at a funny part, and I found myself laughing along, even though I didn't really think the movie was all that funny.

I just got out of the shower now, drying myself off, when I heard a knock at the door. I heard my mum speaking to somebody, and since we didn't know very many people in this town, I had a gut feeling on who it would be.

I wrapped the towel around my waist and tried to determine a good time to make the small trek from the bathroom to my room. I decided I should do it as soon as possible, so with my hair dripping, and the towel tied around my waist, I began walking briskly toward my door. But as I was passing the doorway from the hallway to the living room, I got a glance of her.

Gardenia.

It all happened in slow motion then. She walked through the doorway, stepping toward my door as I was practically jogging toward it. The problem was, I had so much momentum, and I saw her too late, and now it was impossible for me to stop. So I ran straight into her, both of us falling to the ground, me on top of her.

"What the fuck?" She shrieked, not in an irritated way, as I heard many times come from her mouth. It was more of a shocked, 'what's happening right now?' one.

"Sorry, oh my gosh, I'm sorry," I blubbered out, kind of embarrassed that I was lying on top of her with only a towel separating her from my... goods.

"Get off of me, please," she requested, and that's when I realized I was just laying on top of her, not making any effort to move. So I decided to do just that, grabbing a hold of my towel and stumbling myself off of her.

"Sorry, are you okay?" I asked, and helped her stand up with my hand that wasn't holding my towel up. She looked up at me, and seemed to get distracted by something as she stared at my chest.

She was scanning it, her eyes going down, lower and lower, before she seemed to realize what she was doing and she snapped her eyes back to mine.

"What?" She asked, once she realized I was waiting for an answer. I wanted to smirk. I wanted to tease her for looking, for being distracted. But I didn't know how she'd react, so I didn't. Instead, I repeated the question and pretended I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

"Are you okay?"

She shook her head, not necessarily saying no, but more like she's trying to clear her head.

"Uh, yeah, yeah. I'm fine. A bit wet now, thanks to you."

I couldn't contain the smirk this time around, automatically catching a second meaning to that sentence. She noticed my smirk, appearing confused before she caught on as well.

"You pervert! Not that kind of wet," she smacked my arm as I laughed, "Go put some clothes on."

"I'm going. It's not my fault you came home and attacked my naked body. My God, learn some respect, Gardenia."

"I'm going to go home if you don't shut up," she warned, and I held my hands up in surrender, hurrying to my room to put some clothes on.

I returned to see her in the kitchen with my mum, helping her cook dinner. She was making some recipe with corn, mashed potatoes, and ground beef that she found in the cook book she bought at the shop Gardenia and I work at. It didn't look all that good to me, but I was hoping it'd prove me wrong.
