Chapter 2
The hallways were empty as I strolled towards the library. My shoes hit the tile floors, giving me a slight beat to correspond my footsteps to.
I pushed open the wooden doors and stepped in. I scanned the room until I located Austin sitting alone at one of the many tables. I took a deep breathe and walked over there, taking a seat next to him.
For a long minute, neither of us said anything. Until I decided to break the silence, "Uh, we haven't officially met."
"I'm Austin," He greeted me, looking up from his book. I examined him closely. Austin's looks could make any girl swoon over him. Too bad he wasn't a good kid.
"Ali," I responded, smiling. He ignored the smile and just looked back down and continued reading. "So, we should get started," I said.
"Austin!" Someone yelled from behind us. I shot my head around and saw three boys standing by the door with bottles in their hands. They walked in, almost stumbling a few times.
"Are you guys drunk already?" Austin asked, scooting his chair out from under him and standing up.
"Bro, we were gonna wait for you but you were taking too long. And now I see why you didn't come..." One of the boys looked at me and smirked.
"Get some, man," one of the boys' voices slurred.
"Yeah, she's hot," The last boy exclaimed, reaching his hand towards my face. I dodged his hand and stood up quickly.
"Uh, bye, Austin," I muttered nervously, grabbing my books and scurrying away as fast as possible. I didn't even take time to look at Austin before I left. I heard yells coming from behind me. Maybe I was starting to gain respect for Austin, but not anymore.
I walked out of the school, letting the cool air caress my face, calming me down. I walked down the front steps and made my way closer and closer to the road. "Hey!" I turned around and noticed Tucker was running towards me.
"Uh, hi," I muttered nervously as he caught up and stopped once he was walking beside me.
"Ali, right?" He asked and I nodded in response. "Cool. You seem pretty cool," He gleamed, flashing me his perfect smile.
"Yeah, you too. We've never really talked before," I chuckled, wondering why he was suddenly talking to me.
"That should change. Mind if I walk you home?" He asked. Is he hitting on me?
"No, that'd be nice," I responded, blushing a bit.
"So, tell me about yourself," He said, as we continued walking towards my house.
"Well, I'm seventeen, and uh," I stuttered, trying to think of something else to say. No luck. "And that's about it. What about you?"
He laughed, "Well, I'm seventeen, I play football, I have two sisters and amazing parents, and I love food."
I giggled, "Yeah, food's good."
For the rest of the walk home, we talked about everything that came up in the conversation. When we finally reached my driveway, we stopped. "Thank you," I exclaimed, smiling.
"No problem. Let me walk you up to your door," Tucker offered. I immediately started thinking. What if my parents want to meet him? No, that can't happen.
"Uh, sure," I responded, not wanting to sound rude. We walked up my front door, not sharing a word. "Thanks again." He held his arms open. I laughed and leaned in, about to hug him, when the front door flung open.
"Hey, there, Ali," Jacob snapped, standing with his hand on his hip and a smirk on his face.
"Hi, Jacob," I responded, rolling my eyes.
"Who's your friend?" Jacob asked.
"This is Tucker," I responded.
"Why don't we let Mom and Dad meet him," Jacob suggested, smiling proudly, "Mom! Dad! Come down here! Ali has a boy for you to meet!" Moments later, my parents showed up downstairs at a fast speed.
Now my parents and Jacob both stood in the doorway staring Tucker down. "Who's this?" My father asked.
"This is Tucker," I responded.
"Nice to meet you, sir," Tucker greeted my dad, holding his hand out for him to shake. My dad hesitantly took the offer and pulled away quickly.
"So are you Ali's boyfriend now?" My mother asked him. I felt like slapping someone. My face got red and I couldn't speak.
Tucker chuckled nervously, "Nope, just a friend. Well, Ali, I'll see you tomorrow. Nice meeting you, Mr. and Mrs. Jones." Tucker gave a slight wave before walking away with his hands in his pockets.
Once he was a good distance away, I pushed past my parents and into the house. "Why do you guys have to be so embarrassing!?" I yelled, throwing my bag on the couch.
"Calm down, Ali. He wasn't a good choice for you anyway," My father said, trying to make his eyes look gentle.
"You guys are impossible!" I yelled as I ran towards the staircase and stomped up each individual step. I entered my room and slammed the door behind me. I felt like I was being sucked into a dark hole knowing that I'd never be able to escape as long as I live.
I had one intention at the moment- to talk to Alex. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and noticed he had already texted me.

Hey, Robert and I will pick you up at 5. We're going bowling. Tell your mom you'll be back by 8.
Honestly, I had no interest in doing anything right now but the fact Robert was going forced me to agree to attend.

I checked the time. 4:30. So much had happened in a short amount of time. That's how life works most of the time though, doesn't it? When something exciting happens, it goes by far too quickly but everyday life strolls on forever.
I looked at myself in the full-length mirror hanging on my bedroom door. I decided not to change my outfit. I huffed and opened my door, walking out into the hallway.
I entered the kitchen to find my parents whispering something while they drank- probably their third cup- of coffee for the day.
"I'm going bowling with, Alex and Robert," I informed them, not even taking the time to ask.
They both stood in front of me, unmoving. They didn't blink, talk, or jitter. Just stood. I rolled my eyes and walked out the front door.
I tried to force a smile on my face as I started making my way to the bowling alley.
