Chapter 16
My head rose and fell due to Austin's heavy breathing. I had been awake for about an hour now, just laying on his chest as the sun began to rise. I closed my eyes briefly, taking in a deep breath. Austin's shirt smelled like his familiar, comforting cologne.
That night, I felt alone. Until I was with Austin. Although being with Austin was amazing, I could shake off the cloud of guilt that was floating around me. I had just broken up with Robert and a day later, I make out with Austin in his truck. How could I make that sound good? Yeah, I couldn't.
"Ali..." I heard Austin whisper. I sat up, allowing him to sit up. "What time is it?" He asked in a groggily voice. He sounded sexy. I quickly reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone.
"It's after noon. We slept for awhile," I informed him. He nodded, stretching his arms above his head. I stared at him in awe as he rubbed his hands across his perfect features, trying to fully awake himself. "I can't believe we fell asleep here last night," I chuckled.
Austin laughed with me, "Yeah, me too. I guess that's what happens when you make out until two in the morning." He smirked. I giggled and hit his shoulder.
"Watch it, Mahone!" He smiled widely at me, showing off both rows of his perfect white teeth. I couldn't help but stare at him.
"It's rude to stare, Jones," He said, blushing. He straightened out in his seat, reaching over and buckling his seat belt. "So. What do we say we take you home?" I quickly replayed my dad's harsh words directed at me in my head and declined Austin's offer. "Well, then where do you want to go?"
"Your's?" I suggested.
"If you want to," He spoke.
"Of course I do!" I gleamed. Austin laughed before turning on the car and pulling out of the parking lot. I leaned my head against the window, closing my eyes and automatically smiling.
"Ali, can I ask you something?" Austin mumbled. I sat up, turning my attention towards him. I raised my eye brows as if notifying him to continue. "Well, uh, you avoided me for a while after you slept over that one," He paused, "and if you hadn't realized, we're just now coming home from the game which was last night cause we made out endlessly in my car. I just don't get it."
I pondered what he said. "Well, Austin, it's because well, my parents said I couldn't be around you anymore," I told him, looking at my fingers.
"Oh," He mumbled.
"Yeah," I responded, trying not to let this fall into an awkward silence even though I was pretty sure it already did. "Look, Austin, I'm happy last night happened," I spat out.
Austin looked taken back for a minute but then he grinned. "You are? Well, I am too." I smiled. "And can I ask you one more thing?" I nodded. "Have you talked to Alex?"
My smile soon washed off my face. "No," I responded without any emotion. Austin nodded and kept his hands locked on the wheel.
"Why don't you want to go home?" He asked.
"My parents don't want me there," I replied, keeping my gaze locked on the passing road to my right.
Austin stayed silent for a few minutes until finally speaking again. "I want to meet your parents."
I almost laughed until I realized what he was saying wasn't a joke. "Um, no, you don't. Plus, Austin, they won't let me be around you," I responded, "If they find out I'm with you, I'm in huge trouble."
"Well, I guess I won't have to meet them anytime soon but eventually, I am. And plus, sneaking around is," He paused and smirked, "hot."
I giggled, "Oh, shut up."
After a few more minutes, we pulled up into Austin's driveway. I reached over to open my door until Austin yelled, "Wait! Don't!"
I pulled my hand away and stayed seated. I watched as Austin ran around the front of the car and over to the passenger side. He opened my door for me and waited for me to step out. I giggled, "What was that for?"
"I just wanted to be a gentleman," He said shyly. I bit my lip, acknowledging how sweet he was. I leaned and pecked my lips lightly against his cheek. He grinned before grabbing my hand and leading me towards the house.
I smiled as I looked down at our intertwined hands. Austin squeezed my hand quickly before he opened the front door. "Mom! I'm home!" he yelled.
"Austin!" Michele shouted, running from the kitchen towards us with a worried expression on her face. She opened her arms as she ran but stopped as she noticed our intertwined hands. "Oh, hi, Ali," She greeted me, smiling. "I missed you!" She wrapped her arms around me and I shook my hand out of Austin's to return her embrace. She pulled away, briefly brushing her hand across my cheek with a smile on her face. She moved over to Austin with a stern expression on her face. "Now, Austin Carter Mahone, where were you last night?!"
"Calm down, Mom. I was at the game and Ali and I ran into each other and we fell asleep in the truck," Austin informed her. Well, that was mostly true.
Michele sighed, "Well, what exactly were you two doing?"
Austin's face flushed. "Nothing," He responded quickly.
Michele huffed, "Alright, then." She walked away and as she was passing by me, she leaned down and whispered, "Nice hickey, Ali."
I blushed and reached to cover my neck. Austin broke out into snickers. Michele walked back into the kitchen, a proud expression on her face. I leaned over to Austin, hitting his shoulder. "Austin!" I shouted.
"What!?" He shouted back, holding his stomach from laughter. "This is hilarious."
"It's embarrassing," I mumbled, looking down at my feet, my face burning with humiliation. Austin's hand traveled to my chin, lifting up my face so my eyes met his.
"It's all good. Don't worry, gorgeous," He whispered, leaning in and pressing his lips against mine. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck. He responded and slithered his arms around my waist. He pulled away quickly and smirked.
"What?" I asked.
"I don't know. You're just...I don't know," He exclaimed with a huge smile on his face.
"You're so weird. I'm gonna go use the bathroom," I told him. He nodded and I wandered off down the hallways. As I was walking, my phone vibrated.
I pulled it out and opened a new text.
To: Ali
From: Alex
We need to talk.
