Chapter 11
If someone asked me how long I'd been in a relationship with Robert Villanueva, my answer would have been two days. Yes, only two days. Therefore, news hadn't spread and no one knew about our relationship yet, which explains what happened next during this little story of mine.
I tapped my fingers nervously against the plastic Starbucks cup, forcing myself to keep my eyes down to avoid any awkwardness. I brought the cap up to my mouth, taking a small sip of my drink.
"So, Ali, I needed to talk to you," He spoke. I looked up, my eyes meeting his. He looked nervous which was different for him. Usually, I viewed Tucker as someone who always had power in him.
"About what?" I asked, adjusting my position in the small metal chair I was sitting in. Tucker's eyes shifted from side to side as if he was trying to decide how to word what he was trying to say.
"Uh, our kiss," He replied nervously. I felt the knot in my stomach grow tighter. Part of me knew he was going to talk to me about this but the other part of was in denial.
"What about it?" I asked, adding a nervous chuckle at the end, trying to make this seem like it meant nothing. But it did. The boy I that I had had feelings for a couple months had finally kissed me. Of course it meant something to me.
"I was just wanted to say sorry for-"
"No, I liked it!" I responded back quickly, interrupting him. I mentally slapped myself as I remembered, I have a boyfriend. A wonderful, amazing, sweet boyfriend.
"You did?" His eyes widened in a hopeful manner as he straightened himself up in his seat. I nodded slightly, biting my lip. "Well, uh, I guess I should tell that I like you, Ali."
That's just peachy, isn't it, Tucker? You know, if you had said that a few months ago, I would have been all yours but of course, I'm not that lucky.
Now, if you're wondering why I did what I did next, I don't exactly have an answer. It just seemed like the right thing to say at that moment. "I like you too, Tucker."
That was the truth. I did like Tucker. But then again, I had a boyfriend whom I didn't want to ruin my relationship with. Therefore, I had just set myself to either hurt someone or get myself hurt.

You wanna come over?
I read his text over and over again. Of course I did but I don't think I could handle looking at him. I'd feel too guilty.
"Shut up!" I heard my mother screaming from downstairs. Her screaming pierced my ears.

Yeah. I'll be over in a few.
I needed to get out of the house. And I needed Robert. But first, I needed to talk to Alex. I picked up my phone and dialed the much too number. After two rings, it went to voice mail. He had ignored my call. Something about that hurt me. A lot.
Seconds later, my phone buzzed, alerting me a had a new message.
To: Ali
From: Alex
Can't talk right now. With Payton. Don't call me anymore right now, Ali.
I threw my phone harshly on the bed before stepping out of my room into the hall. My mom was still screaming and letting out muffled cries. I walked down the stairs and stood in the entrance of the kitchen, leaning onto the wall.
"This is not my fault! It's yours!" My father shouted as he shook my mother's shoulders violently. I coughed loudly, catching their attention.
"I'm going over to Robert's. I'll be back later, I guess," I spoke nervously. My dad strode towards me, an angry expression formed on his face.
"Good! Get out!" He shouted, pointing his finger in my face. I turned around on my heels and hurried out of the house. I didn't feel like dealing with him or his problems right now, or ever.
I hurried down the dark street at a fast pace, almost tripping over my own feet a few times. I passed by the familiar houses until I reached Robert's.
I heard the sound of a basketball hitting the pavement repeatedly and I could finally make out Robert's silhouette playing in his driveway. "There she is!" He shouted, dropping the ball and running towards me. He scooped me up in his arms and spun me around in the air. Usually, at this point I'd be giggling and screaming but today, I wasn't. He put my down, his eye brows furrowed. "Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," I responded.
"C'mon, Ali. I know you better than that. What's wrong?" He asked, grabbing both my hands and intertwining my fingers with his.
I looked down, feeling my eyes start to water. I tried to fight it. I shouldn't cry. I should act okay. That'll help everything end easier, right? "Alex..." I muttered.
"What about Alex?" Robert asked.
"He's not there when I need him anymore," I responded, keeping my head down.
"I'm here," Robert replied, tightening the grip on my hands. But it's not the same, is it? Could you ever replace fourteen years of friendship? No, you couldn't. Of course I couldn't say that to him. He was trying to help.
"I know. Thank you," I responded.
"Is that all that's wrong?" He asked.
No, Robert, today I told another boy I liked them and I also like another boy who's into drugs and alcohol. Oh, I also saw my dad potentially hurting my mom. "Yeah, that's it," I replied.
"Well, don't worry about that. I'm here for you, you know," He said softly, lifting my chin. I looked into his reassuring eyes and all my worries disappeared. He was like a drug. A good one, of course. He leaned down, closing his eyes in the process.
I closed my eyes along with his and soon enough, our lips touched. I felt my stomach start to churn as he placed his hand on my lower back, pulling me closer to him, therefore closing any space between us. I wrapped my arms around his neck, running my fingers around his perfectly styled hair.
I smiled through the kiss which caused Robert to chuckle without letting his lips leave mine for even a split second. "Robert! Time for dinner!" Mrs. Villanueva called from the front door, "Oh, and hi, Ali!"
I pulled away from our kiss, my face turning red. "Don't worry. She loves you. Therefore, you're having dinner at my place tonight," He laughed, grinned, smiling cheekily.
He grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the house. As he did, my phone buzzed. I pulled it out using my free hand.
To: Ali
From: Tucker
I miss you. <3
