Chapter 6

I pursed my lips, trying to ignore the brain freeze that had just begun as I swollwed another spoon-ful of cookie-dough ice cream. "So, tell me more about yourself," Tucker said, his hands folded neatly on top of the small two-person table we were sitting at.

"Uh, there's nothing really interesting about me," I replied, chucking nervously.

We stayed silent for a few moments, silently savoring the treat we had just ordered moments ago. "Have you ever been in love?" Tucker asked, killing the silence. I looked up from my food, locking eyes with him. I passed him a questioning glance and his face flushed red.

"What kind of question is that?" I asked.

He scratched the back of his neck. "I don't know. Just a question. I'm curious."

I furrowed my eye brows. "Uh, well, no. I haven't. I've never really been in a serious relationship. It's kinda sad," I responded.

Tucker laughed, "I think it's sweet. I haven't either."

"You?" I asked, raising my eye brows, "You? Tucker Mica, star football player, have never been in a serious relationship?" I almost found the thought amusing.

"That would be correct," He sighed.

I huffed, "Well, that's a surprise."

"Life's full of surprises," He added, flashing his perfect smile at me, making my stomach start to churn.

"Well, we should get going," He said, standing up from his chair. I nodded in agreement, copying his motion. We tossed our empty cups in the trash can and left the parlor. "Now let's get you home!"

"Tucker, you don't have to walk me home again," I said as we began walking towards my house.

"Eh, I want to," He responded, looking down at me briefly, giving me a glimpse of his hazel eyes. We walked home, discussing mostly anything that came up into the conversation.

Tucker was sweet and confident. I loved it. But one thing kept bugging me; There's no way this boy could have an intrest in me. Ever.

The sun gleamed in through my white curtains, forcing me to open my eyes. I sat up in bed, streching my arms above my head. Another day.

I got up, approaching my full-length mirror hanging from my bedroom door. I sighed. I slipped off my PJ's and pulled on an oversized sweatshirt, leggings, and combat boots. I allowed my hair to fall in it's natural waves and I applied mascara, foundation, and eye liner before walking downstairs.

My parents were gone because of work. Typical. And Jacob was sitting on the couch, stuffing potato chips in his mouth while flicking through the various stations of cartoons.

"Chips aren't breakfast," I said, crossing my arms over my chest. He glanced at me before rolling his eyes.

"Oh, shut up." I huffed and wandered off into the kitchen. I grabbed some bread and shuffled over to the toaster, sticking it in. I poured myself a glass of milk before squirting chocolate syrup into it.

Once I was done with my breakfast, I plopped down next to Jacob on the couch. "How was your date with Tucker?" He asked, his eyes glued to the TV.

"It wasn't a date," I argued, my face turning hotter and hotter by the second.

Jacob chuckled sarcastically, "Oh, alright."

"Ding, Dong!" The door rang, causing me to instinctly get up from the couch and head towards the door to open it. I pulled open the door, revealing Robert standing there, by himself, in a t-shirt and basketball shorts.

"Oh, hey, Robert," I greeted him.

"Uh, hey, Ali," He said, biting his lips nervously. "I was wondering if you wanted to hang out today." I felt a smile crawl onto my lips.

"Sure! Where do you want to go?" I asked.

"You wanna go to Canyon Lake? We don't have to swim or anything." He suggested.

"Sounds great! Hold on one second," I said, turning on my heels to enter the house, "Jacob, I'm going out! Be home soon!"

"K!" He shouted back. I slammed the front door behind me and walked to Roberts car, Robert following close behind. Canyon Lake was a pretty long drive. About an hour and a half from my house, so I was surprised he was taking me.

"Hey, sorry about yesterday and about having to leave with Tucker. I wanted to talk but I just couldn't," I said, my face turning pink.

He chuckled, "Nah, it's okay. Tucker's a cool guy anyways." I smiled, knowing everything about yesterday was okay.

Once we got to the lake, Robert immediantly suggested we go on the dock. I followed closely behind him as we ran onto the dock, my feet hitting the wooden boards with a "Thud!"

Robert stopped, sitting down on a random spot on the dock. I followed him, sitting about a foot away from him. "My grandfather used to take me here a lot," Robert whispered, "He would tell me about how much fun it was to sail boats. He loved sailing. He always wanted me to be a sailor."

"I'm sure he's proud of you," I responded.

"I hope so," Robert muttered, looking down at his hands. I reached over, grabbing his hand into mine, pulling him up from his spot on the ground.

"Come on! Let's jump in the water!"

"You're crazy! It's gonna be freezing!" He shouted, but I ignored him. I let go of his hand, pulling my boots shoes off my feet and dropping them down onto the dock. "Come on!" I grabbed his hand again.

He bit his lip, obviously trying to decide wether he wanted to do this or wether I was just insane. "One! Two! Three!" I shouted and we both ran off the side of the dock, my hand connected with his. Momentarily, we were in the air, bracing ourselves for the temperature of the water.

Suddenly, my body hit the water, sending automatic numbness all through my body. I held onto Robert's hand tighter as we surfaced. We stared at eachother briefly before laughter broke loose from both of us.
