Hogwarts Express, location unknown
Artemis, was laughing, but no one but his closest friends could tell it. In some occasions, he had laughed out loud, nearly giving his family and Butler a heart attack in the process.
'I wonder what Houses the students believe in? You're all Gryffindors, correct?' he asked, managing to not sneer in disdain, but barely. He respected Godric, but he was too reckless for Artemis to be in his House. He respected Godric simply because he had have to have a brain to get out of something dangerous alive, but overall, he did he did not want to be in Gryffindor.
'Of course,' replied Harry. He then gave a bitter laugh. 'No one would want the Boy-Who-Lived to be in any other House after all.'
Artemis looked closely at Harry. So he hadn't been immediately placed in Gryffindor. Just as he had suspected, and by his reaction, the other House had been Slytherin. So the books were true. Interesting.
He looked over at Hermione and Ron. Hermione looked stricken while Ron did not display any emotion at all. He did not even look confused. He immediately became suspicious of Ron.
He looked Ron in the eyes for the first time. He immediately felt a tingle on his ears, his fairy intuition assured him that it was an imposter. As Holly had said, fairy intuition is never wrong.
'Hogwarts students have a natural distaste and extremely stereotypical notions of all the Houses, I assume?' he said, In the lecturing voice he'd used countless times. 'Gryffindor house is for the brave, Slytherin for the cunning and ambitious, Ravenclaw for the learners, or as you crudely put it, Bookworms, and the Hufflepuffs are for the hard workers. The House system was supposed to make the students acknowledge and be with people who had the same qualities. But what most people do is, they try to blame the qualities of they're House against them. Why do we blame Slytherins for being cunning and resourceful? That is merely asking us to repress our qualities.'
'But- but ...' stuttered Hermione. Artemis merely looked at her.
'But what, Miss Granger?' he asked quietly, the compartment was deadly silent, his voice echoing through the half opened door. 'Slytherins are always evil? Don't people understand that you pressure a Slytherin family to be sorted into the exact House as they're fathers, under the assumption that the son is evil, merely because his father is a Slytherin? It is much more dangerous to a Slytherin to fight with a Gryffindor than it is a Gryffindor to fight with a Slytherin. If a Slytherin fights with a Gryffindor, he'll be termed as an 'Evil Slytherin', while if a Gryffindor started the fight, the attack was provoked, simply because they don't have a sense of humor. Did you not realize that a Slytherin cannot win either way? Lord Voldemort used that against the people, using the Heir of Slytherin mind frame to control the whole Slytherin House.'
'But we did not tell the Slytherin students to join Voldemort.' argued Hermione.
'Would you have given them a chance to prove themselves? Most people does not realize this ; labels are meaningless, its the person that counts.' Artemis raised an eyebrow. She did not have a reply to that, and as the train slowed down, he simply said, 'We have reached the Hogsmead Station,' and swept out of the compartment leaving a thunderstruck silence and many gaping students, who had overheard his conversation behind him.
He didn't specifically like Hermione and Ron, though he did like Harry, he did not want spend time looking for an intelligent conversation among them, though he suspected that only Slytherins would grant him that pleasure.
Besides, now he knew exactly who the imposter was.
Opal Koboi.
Legilimency truly is a marvelous thing.
---A/N This just proves that arguing with Artemis Fowl is a lost cause, since he will leave you no time for an opposing argument, OR a witty comeback.
---Not to mention that he will always walk out in a very dramatic way. ---
