Artemis came to the spot where he had previously been in the Forbidden Forest. He found Holly looking for him, obviously annoyed. As soon as she saw him, she punched him on the arm. 'What was that for?' asked Artemis.
'For making me look around half the Forbidden Forest for you,' she said, looking annoyed.
'I knew that this would happen,' groaned Artemis, 'Salazar didn't let me go until I heard the story'
'Salazar? Story?' no one could blame Holly for looking confused, since she had thought that Salazar Slytherin had died centuries ago. She looked at him in concern, for a moment doubting his sanity.
'Oh, I'll explain it all in great length later,' said Artemis in his lecturing voice. Holly sighed, relieved. So there was nothing wrong with him after all. She suddenly laughed. 'Believe it or not, Arty, I've missed you.'
Then she kissed him. Artemis was surprised, but then he kissed her back. After several seconds, they leapt apart, breathless.
'Well,' said Holly, breaking the silence. 'That was nice.'
'Indeed,' agreed Artemis. 'As much as I would like to stay here, we need to go to Haven to report to Commander Kelp,' the distaste for Kelp was obvious in his voice.
Holly sighed. 'We never get to hang out, do we?' It was a rhetorical question. She then turned to her concealed Omnitool. 'I brought each of us A Hummingbird 2500, enlarged especially for you.' She added.
'I fell honored,' there was no little amount of sarcasm in his voice. 'This is nothing like a broomstick, I trust?'
'Nothing like it,' confirmed Holly, who had ridden in one of the Brooms in Fowl Manor. She had the Broomstick's feel, the wind in her face, dangerous and so unlike her wings. 'Why, is little Arty afraid of a Broomstick?'
'Not of broomsticks, but the circumstances leading up to it,' Artemis's face and voice was emotionless, and Holly instantly felt bad for bringing that up. It must have certainly been a traumatic incident for Artemis, for he seldom worried about the past, except, occasionally, on taking revenge. The Spiro Incident had been an example of that.
'Look Arty, I'm really sorry-'
'No, it was a matter of time before you asked.' His voice had a touch of finality, and Holly let the matter drop.
In seconds, they were soaring through the air, taking the nearest, but by no means the ugliest, route to the shuttle port in E1: Tara.
'Never thought that you would keep up with me, Artemis Fowl,' said Holly, shaking her head jokingly.
'Needless to say, Holly Short, I was good at flying,' replied Artemis, with the same look and tone of voice. It was all he said on that matter as they relapsed into a comfortable silence.
The Meeting Room, Haven
'So you are saying that the whole school thinks that you are suffering from a cold?' Holly asked skeptically. 'For a week?'
'Apparently, Wizarding illnesses last longer than the Mud Men and the People as it seems to effect the magic itself, rather than the body,' Artemis had a brainwave. He couldn't believe that he hadn't thought of it before. 'And we needed a convincing illness, as I need to go to the Order Meeting with the representatives after three days in Haven.' He kept his voice calm and even despite his new found revelation.
'And you, Mud Man-'began Trouble.
'Technically, he isn't a Mud Man at all.' Came Qwan; the Demon warlock's voice from behind them. Everyone jumped, except Artemis, who had of course noticed him coming, the others been too interested in their argument to notice. 'In my time, there were Mud Men with magical powers. We called them wizards, of course, as you now know.'
'But there were a few wizards with the ability to use the Mesmer, shield, use healing powers and practically all the fairy powers. They were also the most magical beings on the planet, and were also immortal like Demon warlocks.'
'Are you saying that Artemis is probably a Human Warlock?' asked Holly.
'Probably?' snorted Foaly, who couldn't keep quiet any longer. 'He is a Human Warlock.'
There was a silence as everyone except Artemis and Foaly tried to digest this new piece of information.
'I need to get out of here,' muttered Holly, while Kelp and the other Council Members headed off in different directions, concluding that the meeting was over. Finally, only Artemis, Foaly and Qwan were left.
'I know that look, Artemis.' Warned Foaly. 'It's the look that says, 'I have a plan and even if you don't like it, I'm going to do it''
'How astute,' remarked Artemis drily. 'Very well, I need yours and No 1's help.'
'For what?' Foaly asked.
'I know how to get Julius Root out of his coma.'
---A/N surprised? pleased? Sorry for the cliffy, but I'm going straight to the Order Meeting in the next chapter, so Artemis's plan will be discussed in another chapter---
