Old friends

September second, Great Hall, Hogwarts

As soon as Artemis Fowl II entered the Great Hall, the whole hall went quiet. Some of the people were looking at him with fear, some others were looking at him with appreciation -some of the girls and boys- while some Slytherins from Pure-blood families looked at him with a new found respect.  Or both respect and appreciation.

Artemis glared his trademark glare at them all. He hated being the center of attention. He, Artemis Fowl II was supposed to be the criminal working on the shadows, not an artifact from a museum or a painting from an art exhibition.

All of them gave him a wide berth, the crowd shifting automatically to give him space.

Ignoring them all, he went and sat beside Draco Malfoy and Celia Black -Regulus Black's daughter(my OC)- both of whom were - he grudgingly admitted to himself - his friends.

Though most did not know it, the Malfoys, Blacks and the Fowls had been closely tied for centuries. They had signed a contract that they would always help each other when in need, and that had been one of the main influences of Hugo de Fole's son finding out about the Wizarding World. Sirius Black, Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy had been the people to reveal the Wizarding World to Artemis and Angeline Fowl. Artemis Fowl II had 'accidentally' overheard the discussion and had kept it a well guarded secret.

He had been seven at that time. And it hadn't been a coincidence when Sirius Black and Celia Black had come to stay with them on the very day James and Lily Potter had been murdered, possibly for five years or so. His father had been muttering about contracts all the while, making it quite clear that he would not hold a wanted criminal in his home if had a choice. That was how he had met Celia Black and Draco Malfoy.

'Celia, Draco,' he said now.  Both of them nodded at him and they all began to eat. At that moment, Professor Snape came to the Slytherin table.

After distributing there time tables, Severus turned directly to Artemis Fowl himself.

'Mr. Fowl,' drawled Severus. 'You're elected subjects for this year are; Potions, DADA, Transfiguration, Charms, Astronomy, Ancient Runes and Arithmancy. Do you wish to give or take a few subjects?'

'You'll kill yourself Artemis,' sad Celia, giving a reproachful look to said person.

Artemis raised an eyebrow.'Your sense of humor never cease to astound me, Celia.' he said. ' And to answer your question Professor, I am taking all the classes.'

Severus nodded and swept out of the Great Hall.

Both Celia and Artemis looked at their time tables. 'Oh no,' whispered Celia, looking at them in horror. 'We have DADA right after breakfast, which means right after now.'

Artemis looked troubled. 'I understand Celia that Moody will be less than forgiving of your father's 'job', but please bear with me, will you?'

'What else can I do?'Celia laughed bitterly.

DADA classroom

'Black,Celia,' called Moody- or as Artemis suspected, Barty Crouch Jr. Before Celia could answer, Moody went on, 'Regulus Black's daughter, are you?'

If Celia didn't have her Slytherin mask in place, Artemis would suspect that she had a determined expression. Celia had always been defensive about her father's status as a Death Eater, and a DADA Professor wasn't going to make her back down. Artemis smirked. Crouch Jr. simply did not know who he was dealing with.

'Yes, sir,' answered Celia.

'I knew your father Miss. Black, and I guarantee that you will turn up like him,' said Crouch Jr. Artemis noticed the subtle hint in his voice; he wasn't praising her skill, he was testing her. Artemis was impressed by his subtlety, someone who didn't know Regulus Black was a Death Eater would simply think that Crouch-as-Moody was praising her.

Unfortunately for Crouch Jr, he didn't know that this was a roomful of ten Slytherins who were all friends of Celia; the other seventh years had abandoned the subject, in other words, their fathers had insisted that they drop the subject.

'You mean that I am as skilled as my father?' asked Celia innocently. 'I assure you, professor Moody, that he was far more skillful than me, although he simply did make one mistake, a mistake that I'm definitely not going to make,' their was a note of steel in her voice, and she looked directly at him while she said it.

'Of course,' muttered Crouch Jr, 'Like father, like daughter'

Artemis saw Celia clenching her fists, a definite sign of revenge. Artemis felt a spark of pity for the DADA teacher, which was instantly gone as Crouch Jr began lecturing about curses, while throwing thinly veiled insults at all the Slytherins.

Crouch Jr deserved all that was coming to him. Artemis, for one, was happy to enact revenge. He let his trademark evil grin spread across his face as Celia looked questioningly at him. Celia returned it with a grin of her own.

Life was certainly getting interesting for Artemis Fowl.

---A/N In this fic, Regulus Black and Marlene Mckinnon(Celia's mother) died when Harry was one, Celia was three and when Artemis was six, killed by a Death Eater by the order of Lord Voldemort. He did't die on the Horcrux hunt.
