Chapter 9: The Blade versus the Fang
My bum landed on hard wood, and darkness dispersed. I heard the cheer of the crowd and looked down. I saw James firing crossbow bolts at Zuwen, all of them missed, several bolts littered on the floor. Zuwen sat crossed legged on the floor, meditating I think, he didn’t seem bothered by the bolts barely missing his head. I sort of feel a bit of sympathy for the little guy, I mean, failing at every shot. That gets embarrassing at the first time, but once it happens every time it’s starting to look like a curse.
The crowd was laughing at James and until his crossbow ran out of bolt. At the click of the last bolt, the crowd fell silent and Zuwen stood up. Zuwen unsheathed his scimitars and slashed at James. He moved so fast I can’t even see his arms move. James had a good chance, if you call dodging every strike that is a hair’s length away from you a fair chance.
Zuwen yelled “Stop dodging!”
“Okay fine!” replied James
He switched from dodge mode to defend mode, using his crossbow to parry every strike sent by Zuwen. “Not so chaud* now eh?” said James.
“Damn you James,” said Zuwen before whistling.
Then, out of the blue, a bright red beam shot out of nowhere. It blasted James off his feet. “I’m pretty sure that’s cheating,” I said. “Well, for me it’s not” said Angie.
Then, the place where the blast came from shimmered and revealed a girl. She wore a white T-shirt, a pair of stained blue jeans and was holding a big gun, cannon, I think. “Who’s that?” I asked.
“She is called Tiffany Fallers. A Gifted Human, main power, her brain. She’s the science geek here. She thinks that she can explain everything with her fancy science. The weapons she makes are usually blasters, large blasters. I don’t know how she even carries them. She has an explanation for all the students here, like vampires for example; she says it’s actually a mental disease that makes the patient have a hunger for blood. Pfft, mental disease, yeah right. Vampirism a disease, but it’s not a mental problem. Besides that she has a rivalry with our best student witch, Sabrina” said Angie.
“So it’s science versus magic, I would pay to see that” I said. I turned to look at the battle and saw James standing up, unscathed; he said “You think that your laser gun can stop me? Think a…” He was cut off when Zuwen kicked him between the legs and slammed his head into the wall several times and dropped him on the ground, hardly.
“B-B-Backup…n-no fair…” said James before fainting.
“20 seconds, that’s a new record” said Angie. As soon as James hit the ground the crowd cheered, and Zuwen and Tiffany walked out of the danger room.
Out of the blue, there came a yell “FOX!” everyone turned to look at the direction where the sound came from. I saw a hooded figure holding what seemed to be a sword made of clouds. It had a serrated blade and looked like it could hurt. He wore a white suit with red shoulder pads, along with a hood. It was hard to look as his face, as the hood was covering it.
“Come out! I know you are here!” said the hooded boy as he walked into the danger room. “Come out and face me like a man!” he yelled.
“I’m not a man! Neither am I a boy! I’m a fox!” yelled Fox with his high pitched voice. The boy snapped his fingers and Fox’s head was carried by wind to the boy. As Fox was carried he started going full fox, but the wind ripped of his organs as fast as he could grow them. As soon as the organs hit wind they turned to dust, the wind also ripped off his skin, and his skin turned to dust like to organs. When Fox reached the ground, he was all bones, so he looked like a living fox skeleton.
But he was not embarrassed at all; instead he raised his tail, arched his back, I remember from a book it says that a fox will pull his ears back, and arch his back before attacking. I expected him to jump at the boy, but instead Fox did the unexpected, he breathed fire at the place where the boy stood.
*Chaud is French for hot
